Having second thoughts on paint color

I painted mine with a rattle can. I need to touch up some spots or put a second coat on it. Once you get close to it you can see light and dark streaks in it. I used the $3 primer at walmart. I used 7 or 8 cans. There are some picts in this thread. http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=14891

 

rx7351 is right. On our car you can see some spots that are darker then the others, mainly on the hood. If you want a fine example of a rattle canned car, take a look at Terry's orange car. Terry you got any pics of it? Frank (71gold) I believe did the job and I didn't have a clue it was rattle canned.

Maybe frank can give some pointers?

 

Here's a Suzuki Intruder 1400 I rattle can painted a few years ago. Was originally black with copper stripes ... I would think if you concentrated on one panel at a time it would work pretty good ...

I also rattle canned my hood scoop, rear spoiler, end caps and both front and rear valances on my 74 Maverick .. Oh yeah ... and blacked out the back panel with a rattle can too!

Now I am convinced about the look...your car looks great...imagine it with red wheels and babymoons and that is what I want...All of the rattle cans pics look good...You guys really rock!!! Side note...we did one coat on the top where the vinyl used to be, just to get an idea...I like it...but hubby said he would pay to have the whole car sprayed at a shop, so we are shooting for Tues AM... :bananaman

 

I would to. It does a real number on your finger after a few cans.

 

I didnt like the baby blue that was on it and the cheapest way for my to get it painted was the rattle can. Most everyone that sees it says it much better now. I get a few that ask me what color I'm going to paint it now, they dont understand that I want to keep it this way atleast for a while.

I have personally used the Dupont Hot Hues Hot Rod Black Paint that Dan gave you the link on. It can be bought at your local Dupont jobber and it sprays great and will give you the look you are after. It will be a lot better quality that using a rattle can and will hold up much longer. I highly recommend it.
I'm sorry guys, I just can't imagine anyone wanting to put rattle can paint on the outside of an automobile ...not a good thing!

As soon as I saw this thread I thought about duponts hot rod black. Ray is right in everything he stated but I thought I would stress that it is made to be a top coat and has UV protectant in it and is made to stand up to the elements. The rattle can primer while you might be able to make it look good for a bit won't hold up to the elements for very long, it is very pourous. If you are going to paint it that way make sure you do it right and add pinstripes or better yet some shiney flames on that satin background
