hey yo to all you out there. i'm going to be replacing the clutch in my 70 mav pretty soon. i noticed it getting a bit choppy when going from stop to start in 1st. i hope it takes a standard set-up because the floor shift tranny is not original. i can't wait till after i pull it to order the clutch because i drive it every day anybody got ideas or suggestions feel free to reply. thanx carnzy

Pull the flywheel and get it resurfaced at the same time.

replace the..." pilot"... bushing while the tranny is out. you will also need a ..."line up shaft"... for the... "clutch plate".
check... "u joints"... on the drive shaft....frank...:bouncy:

i couldn't get a "line up tool" for mine, so i did it by feel around the outer edge of disc using pressure plate as a reference. like the esteemed members have said, resurface flywheel, new pilot bearing, new pressure plate, check u joints (both). ended up replacing motor and tranny mounts to help my chatter. oh yeah, new release bearing, if ya want, i can post, email, or PM chilton's clutch adjustment procedure for that year (might take a bit, manual is at floks place with my mav.)
best of luck, I ended up replacing clutch every 8 months think i had a warp, critical damage issue, never figured it out entirely. went to 302/c4.

"line-up tool" = clutch alignment tool ... I have bought several clutch sets and they seem to have been included with all of them ...

i agree with DM.....alignment tools come with the clutch.....also a throw out bearing is highly recommended...

i replaced a clutch on my friends truck and we did everything but he didnt have the 35 for the throw out bearing and we talked each other into not getting it..after all it is working fine...
well it went out 5000 miles later..and we were dropping the tranny again and laughing at noob mistakes....

    just my $.02

good luck... but do it right the first time
