ok im putting a 302 in my maverick fairly soon hopefully(money causes problems) im either going to put a weiand stealth intake on it or a performer rpm 289 or 302 and a holley 650 cfm 4 barrel carb, i want to put a weiand style shaker air scoop as used on superchargers but cant afford a supercharger, it can be used on a carburetor only set up but i want it to stick out of the hood, any ideas on what i wuld need to raise the scoop enough to go up a hole in the hood? (open to criticism but like the look of the scoop but cant afford a supercharger in my life haha)

A high rise intake is the only way. Most spacers will only give you a couple
    of inches max.

Hi-rise intakes are designed for RPM's. If your motor is closer to stock than
    race your performance will suffer.

The ford version of 'shaker' and Trans-Am cars (Pontiac) had the scoop sitting
on top of another breather assembly. You may be able to custom make something
    that would work.

thats a thought, it wont be stock but it wont be race, itll be medium street headers 268h comp cam intake and carb i listed maybe new heads fairly basic 9:1 pistons, not a lot else.

another option i thought of was a 2" carb spacer plus i could fabricate a spacer between the air scoop and the carb.

I have the Edelbrock performer 289. it is just better than stock, go better. Air Gap or Victor Jr. Or another brand. I used mine just to get a 30 year old car to run, but cannot get good performance out of it.

Comp Cams 268...excellent choice. I had the same combo with a weiand action plus, a Holley 600dp, Hooker headers, closed duels and a 3:50 geared posi and it ran 13.77 in the quarter, got better than stock milage and sounded pretty cool

What does a weiand style shaker air scoop look like? Got a pic? Couldnt you just extent the base of the scoop?

I'd have to see the bottom but if its made of aluminum, it should be fairly easy to extend it. Assuming it has a round collar with some kind of clamp around the base, just cut it off and get some 1/8" Aluminum. Make an extension. Weld the extension to the bottom of the scoop and weld the base/clamp assembly to the bottom of the extension.

those scoops have a fairly tall base on them as they come out of the box.

I had one of the street scoops on a ranchero, and trimmed the base down so it would sit lower.

you may want to get everything and check it for clearance before you go making work for yourself
