im running side pipes also i went with 48 inch ones evryone thinks they look awsum but i,d like to see them longer so im goin with 58 inch ones the ones on this car havenever been used their brand new and never fired up the car with them on it i paid 256 .00 dollars for em if ya like em make me an offer
to see the one with side pipes go to new members its posted there this is one with the exhaust exiting before rear wheels i made this so i can run the car till the new longer pipes come in
I bought my sidepipes back in 76, cant remember the length but if you measure your area from the middle of the rear lower portion of the fender, to the tail end of the rocker panel that will give you some idea of how long you need. Too short looks really bad. Still have my sidepipes stowed away, but they have not been on the car since 1984. I had Doug Thorley Show tubes on mine, some pics somewhere on the internet of it in that form, dang if I remember now. Dan ps found the pic, on the MCCI website,,, that pic is from 1981
thats how i measured em to dan the 2nd time lol i come up with 58 inches i think that would look sweeet the 48 inch ones to me are way to short
My son wants side pipes on his Comet. However in VA. I am told that you can't put side pipes on unless it was an option on the car originally. Did ford ever offer that option? (I'm still checking to be sure that's the law here)
Some states require that the exhaust must clear the last opening window. Better check. Hey Dan, did you ever get exhaust in your car when you had the rear window open?
Me Too !!! I've also been kickin around the idea of side pipes, but I want the plain ole Shelby Cobra look, fat 3" tubes painted aluminum and split my exhaust with cutouts to them. I can then flip a lever and then it's LOUD !!!!
Don't listen to T.L. I think he had a traumatic experience with side pipes as a child I have the Patriot side pipes from Jegs. Cheap, sound great, look good. No negative feedback, except from T.L. (I owe him a beer!) Check out my website (below) for pics. I wish I would have gone to the next bigger size, I think mine start too far back behind the front wheel. I think I bought the 60" and should have gotten 70". Enjoy them anyway!
T.L.i had a beagle that decided to chase my harley and burned his nose on my muffler!it must have hurt bad because we could not get him out from under the porch.good to see you finally got out and you learned how to use a computer.
The only thing I don't like about side pipes is that they have tiny tubes and you have to send the exhaust through serious curves to get it to the pipes. 2" inlet is just too small IMO. Even the big 4-into-1 Vette style only have one of the 2" primaries functional as an inlet. I had them on a Chebbie for several years... Too quiet Too small pipes Always bottoming out Rust fast Look like crap after they get scraped up and rusty/flaked chrome. Just my opinion. I wouldn't mind a set that was 2.5" or 3" through and through, solid pipe (no slotted shield), and the pipes mounted slightly outward from the rockers ala Vette/Cobra 427(rather than under, for ground clearance).
