i already have the front end kit ordered. it should be here next week. i hope i can get the car back from being blasted nexted weekend so i can start on the car. i want to get the suspenion done and the interior painted so i can drop the car off at the interior shop. i want to drop the block and crank off at the machine shop so he can go over the block. i will be taking complete resto pocs as i go. if any one has the paint program that can change things on cars i would like to see a 65 cyclone hood that comes back into a cowl hood. i might need the room and im not crazy over a tear drop scoop. let me know thanks

    do it

I say do it too. With the front end kit and alum manifold, and mabye heads you'll loose from 30-100#s. People talk about this engine weights 250#s more, but it makes mega HP/TQ. now think about that, and if you stroke it to a 514, yeah a 351W would be easy so everyone has done it. Dare to be different. Besides you'll smoke anyone that wants to try you.

Here is a nice link on a Mustang II install that I have been studying before I take the plunge on the Maverick.

As far as a transmisison goes - use a C4 and a BB/C4 Ultrabell or find a pan fill C4 and bell from a 351M/C4 combo. Occasionally they show up on E-bay. I bought another one about 6 months ago on the 385 forum for $35.

Do some searches there - fella there by name of "Scott" working on a 514 powered 67 Fairlane with C4.

What is so special about the '57 Ford 9's? I've heard the later 70's housings are the strongest of any?

hello jamie.back in the early days of hotrodding everyone wanted the ford 9 inchout of the 57 ford.it was i think the first years of the rearend,of course i bet a lot of perfectly good rears got junked because the rodders didn't realize that they already had a 9 inch in their car.

I think the 57's are the same width as the Mav 8in. That's why they are sought after and also for roadsters etc. that use that width. Had a chance to buy one last year at a swap meet, just the housing only, 100.00 firm. Should have gotten it, but have been narrowing my own for several years now using heavy wall truck housings and big bearing ends..
