Any year gas tank (except 70) will work on a big bumper man as long as you have the right straps. You can use them on small bumper mavs after 70 but they may hang down and interfere with the rear valance. There were some huge tanks in 76 and available in 77, not sure if the new ones they sell are the 16 or 19 gallon tanks.

Actually, you can even use a '70 tank in a later maverick as well if you really want. I put one in my '77 about 10 years ago because it was in factory new condition and was given to me for free. :) Instead of straps, I bolted it in in the front and back and it worked well.(after I added some washers to make it tilt slightly towards the sending/pickup unit...I ran outta gas at about 1/8 tank before I did that  )
    Anyway, the proverbial $.02 :)

    m-mark,
i put any year ...sending unit... in. i take a piece of hose, hook it onto the tube. then put a 1 bbl. carb filter in the other end. then i adjust the float linkage to rear empty with 2 gals. of gas in the tank.( my reserve)...frank...:bouncy:

p.s. i had no valance problems when i put the 19.2 gal. tank in my '73.
