hey how many quarts does a v8 mav use of engine oil? and can i fill it up trough the breather thing on the valve covers or where the dipstick comes out of?
mine is stock 302....takes 5 guarts... fill it up on the valve cover....put 4 quarts in it.....after you drained the oil of course....and then use the 5th quart in 1/4 increments to get the reading on the dipstick to full
hmm i thought they would use more oil than that my uncles M_B 240d uses 5-7 on a 4-cylinder engine thanx for the info
Be glad its not like the new 6.0 diesel, it takes 15 quarts. Takes a couple of days to get it through the dipstick tube. Sorry guy, had to do it.
well today i change my oil all by myself and it came out good it took 4 1/2qts. and it didn't spill or anything and i put in a new filter also.:bananaman i'm so proud of myself.
congrats on the oil change.when i was your age i used to read the motor repair manual just about every day.its a real good way to learn the basics on cars.we ran a dirt track car so i was lucky when it came to mechanics to help me out they were already here.you are doing real good learning on the maverick.your uncle deserves a pat on the back for giving you a hand on it.good luck on the auto shop course, it will help you lots.
Should still take 5 quarts. That other 1/2 quart will go into the new oil filter once you start the engine up. If you don't start the car, it will look like 4 1/2 quarts brought it to the full mark. Do you have a manual? As sugessted, you can find out all kinds of useful stuff in there. I used to (heck, I still do) read them all the time. Good luck, Eric J
you might want to add a sealant additive to the oil if it hasn't run for a while. they help the seals get flexible so they don't leak.ask the parts guys what they reccomend.a little moreys will help too.they should have a display you can check out at the parts stores.
