Well, here's my first question: Before I start my '70 restoration I'm wondering how much training I should go out and get. I've worked in the maintenance field most of my life but its been mostly Aircraft Electronics or Manufacturing Equipment. Unfortunately no one in my family is a gear head so I'm on my own. My most extensive auto work was some years ago when I had an old BMW that broke a timing belt and needed a new engine dropped in. I know the experience level on the forum ranges from novice to professional so I wonder what I should do to make the resto less frustrating. Mike
Start with a basic Ford small block book, auto-body book, and wiring manual/book. That'll get you started on the right foot. You can probably pull a lot of stunts off without actually getting formal training. Just my .02
yo dude ha ha i'm just what you'd call a weekend shade tree mechanic but i'd say that with your mechanical ability all you really need to work on a 70 mav is a chilton or haynes manual for your car. everything about the maverick is simple when compared with today's computer controlled cars which is one of the reasons i love my 70 mav. good luck......carnzy.....
You'll be fine Mike. One way to find out. Just go for it and you'll learn new skills as you need them. Every time you run into a snag, you get to learn something new. Have fun!
Thanks guys. I think I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure I'll be able to do all the body work myself but you never know. Now all I need is a fully stocked 30 x 30 detached garage and I'll be good to go!
