    RACE ONLY '71 Grabber

Hey, all... I've wanted to build a drag race only maverick since my late teens (L_O_O_O_NG time ago) . Finally putting together a tube chassis car based on a '71 Grabber. This body style looks killer when it's on 16" wide slicks and slammed to the ground. 1 piece fiberglass nose, glass doors, deck, lexan windows, etc. Gonna shake it down with a short stroke 514, JW glide, Chrome-moly fabricated 9" . After things are sorted out, will swap the 514 for a 558. Plans are to run low 8 second quarter mile with the 514, high sevens with the 558. That may sound like a really tall order, but based on our success with a 514 powered Ranger, it should happen. The Ranger carries the front wheels for the first 150 feet. No good pictures yet, but as soon as I can roll this thing out of the garage, I'll show you what an animal a Maverick can be.

Welcome to the board :Welcome:. I like some of the other will be removing my power steering. It leaks and I don't particularly like the steering response when under power. Look forward to seeing pics.

    Heres a bit of help

I do mechanic work. Heres some tips. Power brakes- find a 75 or 77 2 or 4 door.It doesn't matter. Parts are interchangeable. Power windows- You'll have to find a newer model car that will match up so they can custom fit it. Air condition- If you can find a maverick or comet that came with ac, all you have to do is take the heater box out of yours and reroute the lines just like in that car. 6 cyl. or V8 will work. Tires & rims- Go with a set of 15 inch rims and put a set of 50's on the back.Front- 3.5 to 4 inch narrow rim with a low profile tire 15 inch. You won't need air shocks on the back. You'll like the look. My car is like that. Headers- go with a long tube header. When you purchase the headers tell them its for a straight drive in the floor 302 V8 .If you have a six cylinder motor you won't be able to get it. The name of the header is Flowtech. You can get them in black or chrome. With the purchase of the header tell them that you need the bracket that goes up underneath the car . It keeps the power steering strut from hitting the header when you turn your wheels. power steering- all you will need is a power steering pump and bracket and the lines .You will also have to change your power steering box. Then the tie end rods will have to be changed to the power steering strut. Heres my phonr # 1-910-462-0125. I can explaun everything better to you that you need to know better than I can type. My name is Danny:wave:
