Yes! Most definitely I have one in the trunk of my 73 just to get a little extra traction. Just be sure to lock her down good so as not to have the dead weight dent up your trunk when the blue oval turns on.

    To answer your question...."Yes".

    Another question: "Why?"

Even if the motor was rebuilt and given to you for FREE....it would cost 5 times as much in actual dollars and effort to make it all work.

 honestly, the traction aspect of the 350 in the trunk is a good idea, that or a really good trotline weight. by the wat, where are you in texas, it's a big state you know.:) :)

a good stout 302 will out pull a 350 anyday

when I replaced the motor years and years back in my mav, I had the guy drop the complete shortblock in the trunk because I had nowhere to put it. Traction-yes, the front end was also higher than the rear by quite a bit, and he forgot to drain the old oil, what a mess. It sure made a lot of noise rolling around in there.

the 302 is LEGENDARY---without a doubt, and being 100% honest here, is an honest and EVEN contendor for the chevy 350.

the 302's run with 350's all the time, and there are just as many performance parts for them. The 302 is argueably the most famous and best motor for ever made. Your maverick was also designed for one, and that is one reason mavericks have become so popular lately--

Just to let you know first, I would never put a heart beat in my Mav:D

Back when my dad was drag racing he had a 71 Mav and raced it for several years. The Man that sponsered his car was a die hard chevy man and told him he would give him the money to build the motor as long as it was a Chevy. So my dad did alittle research and found that the combo that best fit what he was going to be doing with the car was a 283 Chevy. He told me that after he had my uncle make him a set of motor mounts he said that the swap was not really a big deal and didn't cost him a lot of money. He had another friend make him some lifts to get the lifters to clear the valve covers and when he did he made them so they would bolt to the Chevy heads and on the top of the lifts he had the Ford pattern so he could bolt valve covers that looked just like the ones you see on most of the 302's. When they got it in he ran it for one season with a Muncie 4 speed and went though about 4 of them, so he bought a new bullet pruf bell houseing and with the relocation of a few hole bolted a Top Loader behind his 283. With the location of the motor mounts he made up for the lenght of the drive shaft and was able to make the original ford shaft work and then changed the rear end out to a 9 inch for the strenght. He also said that if he didn't run the headers he wouldn't have had to mod the shock towers at all. I wish I could post some pics of it but they were lost in a fire at my Mom and Dad's first home :( I have a few but they don't show anything under the hood.

So yes the Chevy motor will go in and at really not the cost that you would think.

I do have to be honest here. The quickest street car I ever rode in was a Chevy. A '69 Z28 Camaro with some extra goodies. The guy let me drive through town one afternoon, told me to get on it. Then he yelled at me because I was shifting at only 6500 rpm. I told him I wasn't going to beat his car, so he told me to move over and let him drive... Sunday afternoon down one of the main streets in our town and he's pulling 9000 rpm shifts in this thing! Incredable feeling!
