New interior

I just replaced the bench seat in my wife's 77 Maverick with a pair of Mercury Monarch bucket seats. The only modification I had to make to install them was to use longer studs on the driver's inner seat track. I reupholstered them and the rear seat with cloth inserts and NOS blue vinyl trim. The original bench seat headrests fit the bucket seats. I installed a CD player and 4 speakers, no grilles. Instead I drilled a pattern of 3/16" holes in the kick panels and rear shelf. I also replaced the carpet, not happy with the fit (Auto Custom Carpet) . I plan to repair the dash pad and recover it this week. I am looking for a Granada console. I have the original mini console from my 70 but it's too small and useless.

Looks Great! I know what you are talking about with the carpet. I just redid my mav's interior and also had problems with the ACC carpet.

Nice seats. You can also cover your speaker-board with some acoustic fabric. Lets the sound through but you don't see the speakers or the holes.

One other thing; I think that everyone here should write to A.C.C. and complain about the poor fit of their Maverick carpets. Perhaps if they got enough complaints, they may retool and produce a better fitting product...

 

Thanks for the compliments. I did do the seats myself, I own an auto upholstery shop. I tried to get the original fabric but nothing even close was available through either SMS Auto Fabrics or Original Auto Fabrics. Most of the original vinyls with the correct color and grain are still available as NOS or reproduction.
To fix the loose fit on the ACC carpet you can add an extra layer of 40 oz. (1/2") carpet jute to the transmission tunnel. This was the third and last Maverick set I will buy from them (I'm a dealer for them). The others didn't fit well either. I've talked to them about problems with the fit on several of thier carpets but with no results.
Right now I'm taking a break from recovering my dash pad. I'll have it finished shortly and installed by the end of the week. I'll post a photo of it when completed.

Great Job. Ever think of making the upholstery for us to install ourselves? Hint Hint. I have the rear Bench in my 74 Comet I need to change to black. I photograph a Leather furniture catalog once a year and was thinking of taking the old upholstery to them for a pattern and some black material (haven't decided if I want vinyl or cloth yet) to sew for me so I can install myself.

 

Maybe I'll take the Maverick to Carlisle next year instead of the Econoline pickup, it's in better shape.
Does anyone sell ready made trim covers for Mavericks? I have all the patterns for the rear seats so making the covers is not a problem. I only have patterns for front bench seats, no bucket seats. I do a lot of custom streetrod interiors and use a lot of late model Mustang and GM bucket seats. Most of them will fit in the Mavericks and I have patterns for most.

what would you charge for a cloth back seat cover? Just a good heavy cloth with the rib pattern sewn in.
