Yea a Buddy of mine said he will swap my engine, tranny, drive shaft, brake lines etc... basicly take my running 72 mav and make my new 69 mav "running". anyway he wants $500 to do all this stuff which sounds like a good deal to me but i thought i would get a second opinion. So what do ya'll think?

Does that price include the price of supplies? New AF, OIL, Brake Fluid, Trans Fluid etc...
Are you swapping the rear end also?
Depending on the condition of the engine you may wish to consider replacing some seals and gaskets while everything is out.

If you have the time, i would at the very least see if he would be willing to knock that price down if you help. I did not build my motor or tranny myself, but i learned a lot of valuable info from pulling my original six and c4 and putting in the v8 with the help of two knowledgeable people. At the very least, you might have some fun with it as i did.

Fk; I took a couple days off, took out my 6cyl, put in my 302/C4, 8" (with springs), and changed over the brakes to discs. Took about 3 days from start to finish, with just a little bit of help (setting in the engine/trans). The rest I did myself, and it just feels better when you do it yourself. However, If you hire this man to help you, try to be there, help and learn as much as possible. Then, you won't need to do it again. Good luck, and I hope it turns out well. Send some pics!

ive never swaped an engine or even watched/helped anyone do an engine swap. Thats why i dont do it myself, ive dumped alot of money and not gotten very much done because im new to the whole car restoration thing, i would love to learn, which is exactly what i am doin. i will be there to help and to learn. will the the 8.8 rear end hurt my inline six that im gonna put in it? and would a stock drive shaft work ok with a rear end of that size? no the $500 does not include oils or thing of that nature but it should now that you mention it. btw this friend of mine is a general manager of a midas somewhere around here so that makes me fell a little bit more comfortable

Frank brings up a very good point. Only way I would let him do it would tell him he dosen't get the money until after the car is running and ready to drive. That way ya know he ain't gonna back out half way through or take a year to do something that should take a week.

I swapped my first engine alone when I was 15. I'm hear to tell ya it isn't hard at all, especially in these old Fords.
