Alright, we know that there are a few types of brakes for out Mav's. We have 4 lug drums, 5 lug drums, Mav disc's, Granada disc's, and aftermarket disc's. Please share what you believe is the weight of your assembly, why you like it, and why you dislike it. I'm trying to figure out how much heavier (if any), the Mav disc brake assembly is compared to the drum brake assembly, and where do the aftermarked kits fit in when its time to weigh in. Thanks!
Don't even mess with drums. Thats all I gotta say here. I'm sick of my drums fadeing out every time I get in the littlest bit of traffic.
I have later model maverick disk brakes on my 73 and lincoln rear end with disk in the back the differnce is so differn't it is almost uncomparable weight wise the isnt probable a huge differnce maybe 5 to 10 pounds a piece almost EVERY asspect of braking is better with disks only i would be sure to use new things like calipers, pads, rotors, lines, and ball joints when you do this because this what makes your car stop sure maybe your car can go but will it stop and the ball joints you should replace because your going to need a wheel alinement anyways when you swap the spindles the only thing i found about disk is that the require maintence more ofter then drums you have to replace the pads sooner and the squel a bit more.
i would agree with jamie......in traffic.....especially the heat of the day......brake fades getting hair raising....epecially when you know the brakes are good...but the car wont slow down fast enough...lol disks all the way...when i can afford it...i am definetly getting front disks at least...

That's gotta be the longest sentence I've ever seen!
Octavian i weighted the stock maverick drum spindels against a set of early mustang drum spindels i was telling you about.. the stock maverick ones are about 1lbs or so the mustang ones are just a tad under that. as for the whole ganada set up spindel, nuts, bolts, pads and everything its about 46lbs. where as the stock maverick drums set up are about 44lbs... not much differance.. but they are lighter.
I went with some of the aftermarket rotors being sold on E-bay, granada spindles and the rest of the hardware from Napa on the front, I couldn't tell any weight difference. I didn't change the master cylinder and I didn't add a proportionong valve...I just bled em and go and they work great. I have oversize drums on the rear (9"out of an 79 F-150) that make a very big difference also.
Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with some aftermarked (Wilwood, Aerospace, Strange) lightweight disc's...Even though this car will see very limited street duty, it will still be a street car, and have a small tire. Which means I need all of the weight off of the front as possible... Oh, and I guess you gotta slow down after a 135+mph pass, too! So the additional stopping power will be nice...
I'm guessing your talking front brakes? the complete set up on my 72 is 32.5 lbs, rotors, calipers, hubs, pads, ect. (aftermarket)
so okibono your selling your car now? thought you were in san deigo? http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/1/0/80443310.htm
