Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
hey a roundup this way.. great! but....

i've tried to get people together more then a few times think the best that i was able to gather was about 8 mavericks that’s it... even then it was at another event.

seems it is hard to get people to bring their cars.. i don't know what the case is. maybe people are to busy here in so cal who knows. yes i'm busy to really plan something however those of you who are on the "board" of MCCI know i down to help.... shoot... i helped you with your goodie bags and raffles and i aint even there  :D so maybe someone else needs to plan it cuz i don't think i'm good for it.

to me the guys here i talk to all the time here in cali are more friends then what you would call club members of MCCI if anything they don't even come to this site. well i at least would like to think of them as my friends if they think otherwise i don't care also those of you who are on this site and in cali you know that at one time or another i have e-mailed you about something going on, yes sometime very last min but other times not.. but i just think people are busy.... but if I haven’t got an e-mail from me b4 then expect me to e-mail you in the future.

so with that in mind i'd show up to something out this way but its a matter if others would too. then again if it was more then 100 miles one way i don't think i would go just because well to me that’s too far. then again in so cal eveything is within a 100 miles!

or think of it this way.. the largest all ford show in so. cal is every year.. the most maverick / comets i ever saw was about 9 and that’s been since my first one i went to back in 1990 or so. Now it’s not like this is a last min show everyone knows about it… what's wrong with this picture?

now if you’re that die hard of a ford / maverick fan why not show up.... well i just think its more of a time deal then someone willing to show up.

then again out here in so cal there is a car show about every weekend.... and personally i'm car showed out. yes i would rather be with some maverick / comet diehards then some stuck up i didn't build my car myself cuz i got to much money car collector

even our company that i work for has tried to do car related events out this way. and they just don't draw as many people as something on the east coast or mid west. personally i don't think people from TX or even the mid west such as AZ want to drive though 1 whole days of desert just to get to cali or visa versa to come to a round up. its just not going to happen.

think of it this way you guys just had yours out that way.. say 50 cars.. that’s about 4 cars from each surrounding state.. correct me if i'm wrong.. even if it was 10 cars thats still not that big of a number if you really think about it.... so with that in mind and what i just said in the last paragraph how many car do you really think we would get on the west coast? yes anything can happen but....

ok maybe i'm seeing the glass half empty and love raining on parade however i just being realistic.

i don't know.. sorry just ranting like a woman with no one to talk too... sorry ladies out there you can hang me for that when you meet me.

corbin and bob aka hotrodbob are out this way… do you hear what i’m saying? or i’m i crazy :coco: and just stupid :90: , what do you think?

I think if you had an all-Maverick out west somewhere it would be successful. It just needs planning and hype...that's what the Roundup has.

Also, everyone wants to go because it is just for Mavericks and Comets. I saw some Mavericks in the round up pictures that were in the restoration process with different colors and everything. Its an event where we can get together and not worry about people giving us crap about "why would anyone build a Maverick" or "that things a piece of junk, why'd he bring that to a car show." Especially in CA, the shows are somewhat intimidating because of all of the $$$ and history and big shots around, but if it was just Mavericks, I'm sure more of us regular guys would come and there would be a good turnout.

It just takes someone willing to put all the effort into planning an event. If someone plans the event, I will come and bring my cars in whatever state that they are in. Some of us need a deadline to get stuff done. The question is: is there someone willing to plan an event out west???

That pretty much sums it up as to why this would be a tough sell...not that I'm picking on one person but it does sound very familiar to me. Believe it or not, we have the same problem out here in the sticks...the people in the Capital(Victoria) think that if anything should happen it should be within there area...but when something is over in the next town(about 35min away)..almost no one will show. We make jokes that our Island should be called Victoria Island...but its just too sad.
As for the Knotts show...to me its not that much different than a big Mustang show. I realize that there are more there than just Mustangs...but I've been to a ton of shows in my day and really have very litle interest in anything else other than Mavs/coms, talking and cruisin' and Drag Racing them. What could be better...and this is the reason I enjoy driving(twice a year it seems) about 4 or 5 hours just to meet up with the Washington people. I was at the Mustang Northwest show in Washington last month...was billed as the largest Ford show in the Pacific Northwest...the only othe cars I looked at(97% Mustangs) were on the way to the cans or to the food court. I also agree with Erick...most if not all of us would have a very tough time at a Cali Ford show..especially Knotts...but a Mav/Comet only get together would be much better...but only if every one will be willing to comprimise a little and figure out a realistic destination distance!

I agree with much of what has already been said. I've always thought it would be cool to have a West Coast Roundup, but from my observations, the turn out would most likely be poor. My attempt a couple years ago to get some Maverick people together turned out to be a day by myself surrounded by Mustangs and Cougars. I agree that a Maverick/Comet specific show would be the best, but it all depends on how many people would not only be interested, but would actually be willing to dedicate the time and effort to actually participate in an event if it was arranged.

I know for certain that CA has quite a few Maverick/Comet owners. I have, what I consider, a very small list of Northern CA owners that I have been comprising when I notice a new member log on from CA, that is about 40 people. If I do some more looking I bet I could find more easily. Also, these are just from roughly the South Bay to the northern CA border. Combined with the Southern CA owners I've noticed, there are quite a few Mavericks/Comets that would be eligible to attend a somewhat centrally located show. Unfortunatly, not all of these people are MCCI members, so there would be less that could attend per the MCCI rules of the Roundup. Also, we have quite a few members from WA and OR, and some in NV, and other close by states that would be reasonably close to a central CA meeting. I'm not saying that Central CA would be where it has to be held, but from the geography of things, Eastern-central CA appears to be approximately the center of these states I mentioned. We'll need to find a place with a good meeting place (Automotive friendly, obviously), attractions nearby(other than the cars), food, a drag strip, and lodging.

I would absolutly love to help organize an event for this area, but I cannot do it alone. I feel this, if it's going to happen, will have to be the work of quite a few individuals. The key to remember though, is that no matter how hard the organizers try, it will not amount to anything if no one shows up on event day.

I'm open to any advise/input/anything to help get something happening over here. I'll gladly do what I can to help.

All I can say is that for the Round-Up I just got back from took me 13 hours to get there (630 miles pulling my car). We had people that came 1000 miles or better and a very big majority that traveled over 400 miles to get there. Every single person that I have talked to is already talking about next years event without even mentioning how far away it is. With all of the excitement on the forum and the photos that have been posted about this years event, that alone should be enough to get the guys out West motivated enough to show up. Even if you can get 20-25 cars the first time, it would be worth it...you can grow from there. Corbin, I hope you'll take this ball and go with it. I think YOU'RE THE MAN!!! Give John Ford a call and get an idea of what's involved in putting everything together. He did a tremendous job and I'll be back again next year. This was my 1st round-up and most definitely will not be my last
You guys deserve a good round-up out your way...Good Luck!!! (y)

    I'll second that.

I agree, it has to start somewhere. Put it together, document it and promote it for the next year. Contact people in your area that have signed into the registry of the board directly and ASK them to come.

Does anyone have a count of cars from the previous roundups?

Depending on the time of year you might draw a few people out of the cold climates to attend an event in a warmer place like So Cal or Arizona.

Corbin, I'd be happy to help. I can't scout locations since I'm way out here but I can do what ever other grunt work you might need.

It's too bad we have a big 'ol desert between all of us...although the thought of setting a Maverick/Comet land speed record on the salt flats is pretty funny. :D

I do not remeber the total car count, I am thinking in the mid-40's. But something I thought about the other day, this is the first Round-up that no one brought multiple cars....usually someone (Wilbur) always brings atleast 2. So the count was even better considering that.

I don’t believe we need to have two meets; the reason behind this thought is it would turn out to be us against them. No matter how hard you try this is just something that happens. If we (the west) decide to have a regional that would be great but, we must also look at the fact that some people may not be able to afford the time or money to do both.

I also feel the club president and its member’s needs to have total control over the location. Not just say “step up and work the details out and it could happen”.

In my opinion the round up is a call for all the club members to participate and moving it to far in one direction at this time would alienate too many people who are committed to attending. Moving it say 100-200 miles west may help get some more to attend it may make it worse.

The bad thing is the computer and the boards make us a tighter and stronger maverick community when in reality we are all hundreds to thousands of miles apart.

I would like to see some type of caravan to the 06 round up stopping in some cities and having dinner and taking pictures of the Maverick brothers that couldn’t afford to make it. Kinda like a Maverick hot rod tour. Maybe start in Reno Nev and drive right down the middle of the country, just a thought.

That’s my $2.50 on the subject (the price of a gallon of gas)

Roundups were pretty much initially part of another Ford event. Then in 01 Craig decided to try it on its own and has grown from there. I would suggest finding an established all Ford event and working the Roundup into it for starters.

I was thinking and maybe the western guys could rent a couple car haulers(the big rigs that carry like 10 cars) and have a couple spots were they could meet and then get shipped out to the roundup. Just an idea an not sure it is feasible but I threw it out there anyway.

I'm a little surprised to see that westerners aren't jumping all over the chance to have something on par with the round-up out east. I don't mean to steal the thunder of the current round-up but it seems that very few people west of Kansas really attend the event...unless I'm mistaken.

I hate to use other organizations as examples but the CCOA (Cougar Club of America) has an East and West national event and the behemoth MCA (Mustang Club of America) has more regionals than you can shake a stick at. I know we're a much smaller group of people but surely if an event was held out west that could draw 20+ cars wouldn't that be worthwhile? Especially if these cars wouldn't normally have gone out east?

As I said in an earlier post...we need to find out who is interested and how far they are willing to travel! I had a meet here a few months ago and it was like pulling teeth to get everyone to show..but we ended up with 8 cars..not bad. Until I arrived at the show I was on pins and needles to see if anyone would actually show...you can only imagine the relief I felt when I saw everyone! Out of these cars, only one(mine) could or would drive down to Seattle to attend a mini-meet (you have no idea what you missed). Everyone had valid reasons or excuses...but in the end this will not get it done..we need support people! We have to get the people who are commited to attend going! It may be only a few cars from each area...but its a start! How about a survey to find out who is interested first..and where they are and how far they will go.

Well Grabber you know I'm in for attending and helping and I'll drive anywhere (which really narrows it down). Say maybe 1000 to 1200 miles from Denver. There are a few guys out here I may be able to talk into a convoy...which might help since people generally don't like to go unless they know others will be there. Also when you make a commitment to travel with someone it carries a bit more responsibility than simply saying "yeah, I'll be there".
