This is for a 1994 Ford Explorer by the way, admin can move me if you need to. Originally, i had a cheap-o receiver in the vehicle. I got sick of it, because it kept cutting out in one speaker. So I bought a brand new JVC receiver, and a harness. Everything is wired and spliced correctly. The receiver gets power, and the equalizer shows that it is getting radio signal, but none of the speakers get sound, not even radio static. So I tried plugging in the old receiever to see what the problem was and it won't put out sound either. Both of these receivers worked, but I have no clue what else it could be. All help and suggestions appreciated! thanks!
They have something in the left rear panel,,, I forget what it even is. Dont remember what it even does. Not much help I know, but it has been 10 years since I did that stuff. It might even be the actual receiver if I remember correctly. Dan
Many of the Explorers have a factory amplifier in them. If you are using a harness adapter you need to make sure you hook up the amp turn-on wire to it. The adapting harness that plugs into the vehicle side will have a blue wire or blue with a white stripe. The JVC harness will have a blue with white stripe wire on it. This wire is a low amperage (.5amp) 12volt (+) trigger to turn on amplifiers. If your system is amplified this wire must be hooked up to turn on the factory amplifier. (If there is both a blue and a blue with white stripe then the blue with white stripe is the amp turn on and the solid blue is for a power antenna trigger that turns on and off with the radio) The downside to using the factory amp is that the head unit will have a far stronger output and usually will be very loud without turning the stereo volume up very high and will usually distort easily when played at higher volumes. The best way to put a stereo in a factory amplified system is to bypass the factory amplifier with a special harness that just simply plugs in where the amplifier is and jumps the amplifier altogether. You just pull the passenger side rear panel off and you will see a silver box with two plugs on it. Simply unpug them and connect them with the adapter harness. It will then use the power of the radio and sound much better. Maybe even get rid of the problem with the speaker cutting out to begin with. Those factory amps are not very reliable because they do not get much air movement behind the panel and overheat causing premature failure. Good luck. If you have any questions you can PM me. I will try to help.
thanks guys, it works now! although BIGBully is right, it does sound like crap at high volume levels.
