Fair enough. I figured it was serpentine and way to high on the amps.

I think this should go on the "special topic" section of the forum, or at the least, added to the PA Onewire conversion post.

this isnt a one wire conversion,....

my alternator on the maverick has 3 wires....and the alternator that is form the tempo has a voltage regulator on the back of the alternator.... and 1 fat wire and 2 thin wires....my concern is that if i hook it up wrong i will fry the entire electrical system....

is it ok to have 2 voltage regulators? i have the one one the pass fender apron....and if the alternator from the tempo has one as well...is that gonna hurt anyhting?

Yes, actually if you use the alternator I tell you to use, it makes it a one wire. You have the battery wire and one wire going to it, just like all other one wires.
I highly doubt it will hurt anything to run more than one regulator.
And if you look up the wiring on the external regulator, it can be bypassed fairly easy.
But 2 regulators shouldn't hurt anything at all.
The one on the alternator will regulate it there, and then it will be regulated again on the fenderwell. It's not like it doubles your voltage, if anything it should be safer.

If its the internally regulated one then yes.
The one w/ the regulator on the back of it I'm not sure about. I could figure it out but dont have one here to play with

I waited until today to post this, but I put my order in for a True Single-Wire 135 Amp alternator today. $100 drive out (not even a core charge)

It's a Delco with a spacer to fit a SBF.

I looked at the price for a '91 Taurus on autozone.com and it's around $135 PLUS a huge core charge (if you don't have an old one to toss in the deal).

I'll remember to come back to this thread with a part number and/or pictures when I get it (tomorrow if I get over there).

The maker owns a small Alternator Repair Shop in Bryan, TX.

    We'll see.

I'm not suggesting it's better than the '91 Taurus alt, just noting that there may be other options out there (by checking with your local alternator repair shops).

And if you can get a '91 Taurus one from the junk yard, you might get a good one .... and you might get a junk one.

Dunno. Jury is still out for me.

    Glad to know another alternative.
Weird how it was over $100 I priced mine locally for like 45 bucks.
If you can get one from a junkyard for a few dollars, always worth the money... even if its bad, can use it as a core on another alternator

Rick Book , yea I put a ole style Delco on a Comet , it worked just fine put out 14 volts non stop idle or cruise. it had the 3 wire set up but you can jump the 1 small term to the main bat. lug , an the other small term. you hook up charge lite wire to it , over all took like 30 minutes from opening the hood to closing hood , I know its not a FOMOCO part, but far better then sitting in the dark , plus you can get them at any parts store for like $25.00 all day

I just got back from Hi Lo, $49 with $10 core, BUT only 80Amps, had the pulley with the multiple ribs, external fan, two separate plugs with three connectors each. Just the entirely wrong item. I asked for 1991 Ford Tempo.

Andysutt, I could sure use the part number...

I have a feeling there is going to be a run on this part if it is $50...

Because of the price difference of where jim4rd and I live, apprarently each Autozone region has different prices. I'd give them a call on the '90/'91 Taurus and use the shcematic in this thread.
