The box is only on 1974 models. Simply unplug the wires under the seats.

Jamie....is the seat original to that car?

Unpluged the ones under the seats on my 1974............works fine.

I unplugged the wires under the seat when I first got the car, I hate the buzzing to remind you to put seat belts on. Runs fine.

Maybe if I plug them back in it will run better, like low 10s in the 1/4?

I will pull that box out and see if it runs without it.

OK, took the box out, and the car won't start.

Can somebody figure out which of those 15 wires we have to hotwire to get it running. I don't want to put it back in.

My guages can go there, then a stereo in the stock hole, etc...

I even tried to splice the wires under the seat to see if it would start. Nope.

Seat was not original. I have gotten in contact with the second owner and it seems he has swapped the seats several times throughout the late 70's and 80's. He said as far as he knows the buckles were original. Maybe it was a special order or something... Sure would like to track down the original owner. I've found several little odditys like that with this car.

Scooper, I'm going to see if I can dig up a wireing diagram and figgure out how to wire around that box.

Page 49 in my Chiltons has the poop on the interlock system which includes a bypass switch located on the left wheel well. This allows you to start and service without a warm body in the seat...or bag of groceries. It's a one time only deal though.

o.k. look folks...seems to me that the repair manual for that year should have some diagram for the wiring to that box. however;since i'm just a shade tree mechanic i would suggest you get a qualified electrician/mechanic to re-wire around the box and remove it.thank God i own a '70.

I have the wiring diagram for the 74 Mav, but I don't read them well enough to figure out how to re-wire it. Anybody good at reading these?

the closest thing I see on the 74 wiring diagram is just labeled with letters they all just connect to the same color wire ie: bl-bl with one exception at one end there are two light green/red wires that hook to one light green/red wire going out. if I this is the correct item there are 33 wires in that connector. although I am not conviced that is the correct item. for one there is no electrical digrams showing that this is any more then a connector ie: no resistors, no capacitors, no fuses, switches etc.

On my diagram, there is a box with 10 wires going in and out. It might be that thing. My connection has 13 or 14 wires. Doesn't this seem like an awful lot of wires for just a cutoff switch attached to seatbelts. It also has craploads of resistors and some large metal doohicky in there. Seems like overkill.

Are we sure this doesn't do something else?

It seems like it should be a computer, like we have in fuel injected engines...

I'll pull mine out tonight and let my friends dad (who used to be a computer engineer for IBM) look at it, see what he thinks.

Jamie, I hope that guy can help us get this off the car!

Does anyone have access to mustangforums.com? I tried to do a search on there and see if the "yellow box" is discussed, but I cannot search without a password.

Just wondering if someone has already fixed this, and we are trying to reinvent the wheel.
