Looking for a Gas tank for a '70 Maverick. Mine has just been welded/patched once too often and now the patches have patches. I'd like to find a source for a new one if possible, but I'll settle for a used part if nothing else is availible. Anything I buy would need to be guaranteed though. I'm willing to travel about a 250 mile radius from Norfolk, Virginia to pick one up.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

They dont reproduce them so your SOL. I always wondered how hard it would be to put a mustang tank in one. I have a 70 sitting in my garage all cut up. If I had a mustang tank I'm sure I could figure a way to get it in there.

I wrote the article but its only for 71-77 cars. The 70 has a drop in tank like the mustang but the mustang tank is much bigger. I guess I could buy another mustang tank and save it for my 71 when I'm done with the 70.

Thanks for the responses so far. I've pretty much figured that I out of luck in finding a new one. I've tried AuotKrafters out in New Market, Virginia but they're out of stock on used tanks too. I don't really have the equipment to try to "fit" another drop in tank into the car.
Has anyone any experience with the gas tank "RENU" product? They claim that it can be used on almost any tank, but I kind of question the claim.
    Thanks again.

    renu

I've never used them but having a 69.5 I have accumulated 3 xtra tanks unfortunately all have either deep bends or small leaks. I read some of the internet articles about renu and it LOOKS like it would be a solid solution. From what I read they seperate the two halfs, replace any rusty sheetmetal with the same type ridged formed or whatever you call it then plasticoat it inside and out. Supposed to I believe to be guarenteed for lifetime if I remember right. Kinda expensive though so I have not contacted them yet. When I get the money I thought I would sent them the worst one and see how it came back. :)

Dennis, I think it's time for you to do the first write-up on a 71-77 style gas tank conversion on a 70 Mav. Cover up the hole in the trunk, weld on the brackets for the tank straps, and install a later tank or one of those mustang tanks on a 70 Mav. How hard could it be? :D There's enough 71-77 parts cars you could probably use the trunk floor from one of those to get most of the parts you need, possibly even steal the section of the rear crossmember that has the strap holes in it. Not saying it would be the easiest thing to do, but considering the low supply of 70 tanks, might be an alternative.

I think it would be easier to keep the drop in tank and just modify the well to accept the mustang unit. I wish I had a mustang tank, I'd do it. I got to see a Mustang guy this weekend about some convertible side windows. I'll see if he has an old tank I can borrow.

69.5 and 70 are the only Mavericks with a drop in tank.
I will check with a friend on Mustang measurments he has a 69 Shelby GT500 and might have a spare Mustang tank around that I can compare to the NOS 70 Maverick tank I have.

i am getting ready to put a mustang tank in my daughters 1969.5 maverick. you will lose the place for the stock muffler.the mustang tank is wider, but also not as deep.it should leave room to put the muffler sideways in front of the tank.im thinking maybe a muffler that has one inlet and two outlets for the duel exhaust look(it has a 6cyl). i will let you know how it turns out. yes, i will take pictures

I too have the same problem, Got a tank out of a yard and it too had been patched.
I checked my Hollander interchange book and there is no other ford that will swap out
as a direct replacement. Time to get out the torch.
