Dale and I went to car show today, probably the last one we will go to this year. We could'nt ask for better weather. It was a perfect day to look walk around looking at beautiful cars. We decided to take both of our Mavericks because it seems we are the only ones to bring them to this car show. While I was cleaning up the Stallion, I heard a young guy say " Look! a couple of Dusters!" It took me a second or two to realize he was talking about our Mavericks. Our cars have been called a lot of things in error before, but this was the first time they were called Dusters. I just smiled and continued cleaning the car. We had many people come up and tell us tales of Mavericks they had owned and Mavericks they still had, or wished they still had. Most were delighted just to see a pair of Mavericks at a car show. Then it came time for the judging. This show is judged by the club, so all we have to do is sit back and have a good time. The fellow judging our class walked up to the Stallion first. He looked the car over from top to bottom and then turned to me and asked, " What are those seats out of? " I told him they were out of that car and that the car came with bucket seats. He gave me a funny look and said that he had never seen bucket seats in a Maverick before! I assured him that Mavericks did indeed come with both bench and bucket seats, all the while thinking ' why are YOU judging cars when you don't know what you are looking at?' I don't think he beleived me. When he saw the flight bench seat in the 77' Maverick, he asked me the same question again. This time I showed him the original window sticker for the car with the seat clearly called a ' flight bench seat.' I still don't think he was convinced. In the end, the Stallion ended up winning third place. The first place car was a Camero Z28. I guess he knew what he was looking at with that one.:16suspect None of that really matters though. We had a great time and are kind of sorry that the car show season will soon be ending for the year. We have such a wonderfull time just talking to folks about Mavericks and cars in general that it means very little if we win or lose. Every time we convince someone that thier old Maverick is worth fixing up, that is a winning moment to us.
Congrats ... Took the Grabber to a car show yesterday morning and a cruise-in last night. Positive comments and chatter at both events with a Top 15 trophy at the show .... Had the yellow Maverick out today to cruise over to Mustangs Unlimited. Stopped at Target on the way home and some guy spun around and followed me into the parking lot. When I got out he asked me what year it was and if I would sell it ... Had to give him the bad news ... not for sale ....
i love car show stories! duster well at least he got the shape right. i was at an import car show and some kid said wow did you see that corolla with that V8 in it! hey and don't worry you weren't the only one this weekend that was beat by a chevy! i lost by ONE point to a chevelle but the response on the car was great and many there loved seeing something that they have never seen b4. off to the next one next week! i plan to be beat by another chevy too
I love to hear car show stories also. That's why I go to car shows. I love talking to the people. What better way to spend the day....Congrats Jean & Dale. You both deserve it...
Thanks everyone. We only went to 6 car shows this year, way down from years past. I can honestly say we have more fun at the shows than anything else we do all summer. I can't even count how many people we have met who later became good friends or became future customers. That's the best part of going to the shows to us. The Mavericks were very successful when it came to winning. At every show we went to this year, one or both cars came away winners. I did notice one interesting thing. At every show where the cars were judged by the participants, the Stallion would win over the 77' Maverick. At the AACA shows or shows judged by the clubs putting on the show, the 77' Maverick would win over the Stallion, except for the last one. I guess people liked the Stallion better. While winning is always nice, it turns out that it serves another purpose for us that in the begining we never gave much thought to. Thanks to our Mavericks, we have gotten quite a few new customers who liked our cars enough that they want us to do thier cars too. You could say that our Mavericks have become our advertisments. Still in all, even if we never win a thing, meeting and talking cars with people is by far the best part of all. All the trophies in the world pale in comparison to that. There is one more show this year we want to go to were there are no trophies. In this one, almost every doller goes toward Dream Come True for children. It brings in a huge number of cars and it's just for fun. I think that will be the perfect way to end the car show season.
I also have had simaliar comments when I take my 75 Grabber to shows. If you have ever seen it at the round up or pics. It still has all its original dents, dings and paint chips. People will look at it just as much as something right beside it that is all redone. I like it! People can relate to them because they had one or there friend did or relation did. I was at a car show/cruise-in, with Wilbur this year. The only cars that was aloud to cruise was the ones in the show. They had the whole main street closed off. People sat along the road. Anyways I was cruising and the windows down and could hear real good. There was 2 guys sitting together, and one said to the other and said. Hey look, theres a Grabber without the Grabber. I knew right away he was talking about it didn't have a Grabber hood. I had to set them straight politly on that one.
