    Yeah...
I started playing with Mavs when I was a kid cuz I couldn't afford Stangs.
Now folks are gettin' stupid with what they think these cars are worth.
My first Grabber cost me 200 bux, and it was in better shape than all but the best cars on this site. Sold it for 250. That was in 89.

That is the price of popularity. I remember 10 yrs ago before I joined the computer crowd. I thought I was the only guy in the US that liked these cars. I bought many of them for $50 or less just to get them out of back yards. So now that they are becomming extremely populer, is that a good thing? Since I'm older, I guess I always liked "the good old days".

They are a finite resource. The prices are dragged up by the prices of Stangs. Inflation.

    There you have it...LOL! :)

Lesson for today ... if you currently own a nice Maverick .. keep it ... it's an investment ... if you don't own one ... get one while the gettins good! - or atleast the gettins OK ...

Yes, 15 years ago, you could not give a Maverick away. Now they're fetching some high dollars (more than they cost when they were new). One sold at Good Guys this past weekend ( a green Grabber) for $3500 and it didn't even run...

Some people look at them as a Mustang alternative. I have always loved Mavs and Stangs but I seem to favor the road less traveled.

If you own a completed Mav the price inflation is great but if you are looking for the "right one" i can be a little discouraging.

    I can't believe I just paid $2800 for one!
That is 3x what I paid for my 75 when it was cherry.
This one is not in what I would consider 'good' shape.
The only things its got going for it are that it runs and has no rust.
Beyond that, there is nothing else to say.
I bit the bullet though because I see what some of the rust buckets are bringing on eBay.
I felt like if I didn't grab this one, I would play hell getting a rust free example for twice that much before long.

Times are a changing for sure, I think this is just the beginning. Where and how high it will go, well depends on how much people want to pay. It's incredible when you look at the insane high prices that the Mopar cars are going for. With that in mind, Mavericks/Comets are still a good deal. :2cents:

I think those in the know, such as ourselves, knew this day would come. There was so many of these cars produced you can still find them, much like the mustang. While more people saved the stangs early on as it had already achieved a cult following from day one and a reputation for being a great car for all uses. It was also easy to work on, took well to mods and the after market pretty much was there from day one. Today, well you have so many mustangs three things have happend. First, what else can be done to a mustang that already hasn't,people are looking for fresh new ideas. Second prices on mustangs are at an all time high(as with most pony cars, muscle cars) which is kinda like trickle down economics. The mavericks burst of popularity is a result o this trickle down economics. They were much cheaper(and still are for the most part but that's changing fast) but supply and demand always dictates the market value,as the desire for other people to own/modify/race/restore mavericks comes to pass value has and will steadily increase. Thirdly we have"Created part of the monster" ourselves. In our selfless desire to further the mavericks standing to the rest of the auto community people have responded to our enthuisiam and joined in the fun as there seems to be more likeable people involved with this than the Mustang crowd. I have yet to see any member bash another members maverick or swear their Maverick is the best in the country. How many times has new comers to this site or first time mini meet attendees make the comment "how much they liked the laid back and family type atmosphere. Mavericks and the people of the maverick community :urock:. Keep on Mavericking. I for one welcome other people in the fold even if it raises the prices.

We have done this ourselves ... all of us! The members of this board and the MCCI have created hundreds of great looking cars! We have brought them to car shows, cruise-ins and joy-rides. I love driving down the street watching all the rubbernecking. We have gotton our cars in plenty of Magazines and even on TV. We have created the Maverick craze ourselves! Congratulations ... it's a beautiful thing!

The wonderful economics of supply and demand ... and we all know the demand for restorable and/or rust-free Mavericks has already exceeded demand so up go the prices ...
