I spent 2hrs witht he progressive adjuster this morning and as expected, the Mav is considered to be totalled.

Progessive is offering me $900 and I keep the car. The adjustment is based of the NADA value of 1,040, which is righ for my car. Some deducions were made for pre-existing stuff (cracked glass, etc).

    I haven't signed anything yet, I'm open to suggestions/opinions.

I 'seems' possible to restore it to where it was, perhaps a little beyond for $900. I guess a trip to the local wrecking yard and some time spent disassembling this weekend is in order.

you know if they are giving you $900.00 and its totaled you can get another one or a shell for that or less and fix it up using as many parts that are good on your wrecked car, these days unless its pristine and you can prove your value the insurance companies seem to rule everything...good luck with the dilema.

i strongly suggest getting a picture of one or two that have sold that are in nearly the same condition, then getting a couple body quotes on repair. take those numbers to the adjuster and tell them that replacement or repair are the options you are willing to accept. if you accept anything less they will gladly give it to you. be hard nosed and stubborn, cause its just money to them but its your baby.just my:2cents:

    Don't let them total it!!!

I don't know how it works in Texas, but on this side of the Sabin River when you total out a car they give you a salvage title! Which in translation means "junk", some insurance companies won't insure cars that hold that type of title. I would do a lot of home work before going down that road!

It's a '72. Who cares what the title says. We're not talking new cars here.

If there is any structural damage, I would find a shell and swap everything over. If the frame and everything is straight and it's only cosmetic damage, by all means fix it.

Is there any way you can post some pictures of the damage?

Whoa! Hang in there, just had something like this happen to me, they totaled the car and offered me at first $3500.00 but $3000.00 if i kept the car, I figured I could fix it for that. But then the girl that did the hit and run paid to have my car fixed (did a good job also)

Then out of the blue (meaning no talking about it, no deals made) They send me a check for $2579.00, saying the car was worth $2845.00, but that I'm keeping the car so it's $500.00 less. But they wanted me to "surrender" the title and plates to the DMV plus fees of $65.00 and get new plates and what they call a salvage title in Califorina (land of fruits & nuts) If the girl had not fixed my car I would have had to do this, meaning I would lose my classic blue and yellow plates that came with the car and have a title that said my car had been wrecked. (not too good for resale or trade in)

They based this settlement on a seach engine called Autosource Valuation, ( I think they pay for this service) which looked at nine differant Maverick for sale ads (all1971's) plus what they "think" a 1971 condition should be like after 34 years. No matter if it's cherry or not.

If you have a FAX machine I'll send you all this info, it just may help you get a litte more, hell better then $900.00 right?

I definately would not accept a junk title under any circunmstances. Especially after seeing pictures of your car. Its not that bad.

I had the same thing happen to me. I had a 76 4 door mav was rear ended. The insurance co. wanted to give $900 for it and total. I told them no way in hell. I went to war. I had all my receiptes and I went to autotrade.com and did a search of all the mav and comets that there for sell in the U.S. Brought them back in and told them to fix it nothing more, nothing less. They wrote the check for $2500 and I got the car. The bad news is they didn't give me enough money to fix it and they set it up so I couldn't ask for more. But I got money and the car, 7 months later found my 75 mav.

You may want to do the samething. Time to go to war. Good luck and let us know how you did.

A little advice, from experience, to anyone who has a car that is if you want to say "done", have it appraised and insure it for that amount, it may cost you a little bit more in premiums, but its worth it.

Also make sure the "Agreed Value" is still at what it was appraised every year. on my wifes cougar they lowered the value by 2000 after two years and attributed it to normal wear and tear. i got it reappraised at more than the original appraisal and chewed out the insurance company over it.
