Well a little update. I have no idea what I'm going to do. That's my update. The deal fell through on that '91 Lincoln and the guy that ran the trans shop sold the place just last week. I guess I'm going to try to piece something together out of the 3 messed up C4's I have laying around.
The guy cant do it himself at home? You dont need a lot of tools to redo a tranny Wish you lived closer, im sure Old guy would fix ya up real good
Wrong. Autos have a torque converter, which has toque multiplication. With an auto, it's possible to have 300 lb-ft of torque coming from the engine, and close to 900 coming out of the converter...depending on the multiplication factor (which is different on each converter). Manual trans=great for street cars and heads-up racing, bad for bracket racing. Autos are great for brackets and faster heads up race cars. Also, building and modding a manual to take the punishment for racing is expensive compared to a C4.....you can build a C4 to work fine behind a 500 HP engine for around $200, minus converter. We have about 10 of them out there right now in different cars. I've even seen C4 behind a Big block chevy. Personally, I wouldn't use a 3 speed manual...I'd just swap in the 4 speed and be done with it. Either that or a T5...Overdrive is nice!!
automatics rule NOT! just funnin' i like my 3 speed but that's probably because i have a 170 I 6 and the manual trans gives me a better sense of power
Personally I think 5 speeds with overdrive rule, but thats just my opinion. Wish they were a little easyer/cheaper to install.
I wish I had a 5 speed to put behind my beautiful 302.....but, the C4 behind her serves quite well in that respect. She was VERY easy to rebuild (got the manual from Haynes, Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul, ) and NOW, after the overhaul and trans swap ( I rebuilt a junkyard trans, not the one in the car when I got it, the one in the car was a topshifter, and my car is a column shifter, needless to say, it sucked figuring out what gear was what, ) my Comet runs awesomely,
That should have been an easy fix.... maybe not, but seems like it would be. I liek your method "rebuild a junkyard one first" so its a lot easier. drop one, throw new one back in
Still got the old toploader... And I did put a kit in it, I highly doubt it'll go back in the Comet, but it'll be around, in case a use comes up for it,
And that would be....in the section labeled "WRONG ANSWER". Well.....now if it's a clutchless manual transmission........
