Yep, cross egged shaped. It's a new term for someone who does'nt proof read their posts. lol
I was trying to say that there appears to be some cross hatch still there from the previous honing. If the cylinders are still round and not egg shaped maybe he can get by with a new honing and rings.

Jaynik, don't put yourself down man. None of your questions are stupid. That's what this forum is here for is to answer questions and help people out.

That said, I would re lap the valves and put some new valve seals on and bolt it back together (bottom end and all). Then run a good quality oil and motorcraft filter and change them every 3,000 miles. Let the heat in the engine and detergents in the oil do all the work of cleaning the bottom end. It really dosen't look that bad at all to me. Mine was worse. I think by knocking any of that crud loose you are just dragging yourself into a complete tear down and rebuild. You'll never get it all out otherwise once you knock it loose.

Alot of guys here probably won't really agree with me but I know it worked fine for me. My 6 cylinder was a cruded up, abused mess with 3 seized valves and hadn't been started in 10 years when I got it. It now takes me where ever I want to go. Dosen't smoke or nothin and my cylinders are worse then yours.

a new hardened oil shaft shouldnt be more than $20. take a peek at the bearings while the pan is off. might help the decision.

    Jamie,
although i agree about regular sludge, i disagree on this one because it is water mixed in by my understanding. if he runs the trans fluid through the regular oil chanels it should push most of the water out without breaking up too much of the regular residue. if the engine is run with the water in it too much it will only last about a year before the bottom bearings seize up. other than that id agree.

Ahh ok, I didn't notice the water part. Yea, you definately want to get any traces of water out.

no water actually. The gasket blew between cylinders and didnt compromise the cooling system.

And actually, I turned it upside down again and much of the sludge fell out. It REALLY need an oil change, i dont think my brother was doing it. I'll probably just run it for 30 min and then change the oil again and run for like a day and then do it again. All the sludge is reaaaly loose.

Sounds good then. You got an oil pressure gauage on this car? If not I think it would be a wise thing to install beings that it will be a daily driver with an older engine. You can buy a decent one at an auto parts store for around 15 bucks and it could just save your engine. Going cheap, I'd reccomend one made by Sun Pro. I don't know about you but I have a hard time trusting the dummy lights in a 30 year old car. :)

Since you allready have the oil pan off, I would check the bearings for wear. If they look ok, no copper showing or deep scratches, I'd button it up with new gaskets and run it. Try using some Lucas heavy duty oil stabilzer mixed in the oil. It will increase the pressure in a high mileage engine and slow down oil usage. I use it in a 435 hp diesel pulling 80,000 lbs gross weight, in my 84 4x4 351W, my lawn mower, just about everything I own, so I know it's a good product and works good. One quart is all you will need, just use one quart less oil when you change it.

Isn't minimum wage around $5 an hour? You cant hardly insure a car and buy the gas for $50 a week.

why doesn't he ask for more hours? 10 hours a week is only 2 hours a day or less depending on the days he works, don't you have a walmart or k-mart or stores like that he could work at, or maybe get 2 part time jobs and increase his earning potential thus making more $$$$. is seems odd he needs a car to get a better job when he can't fix this one with the job he has,I wouldn't think he could even afford insurance unless someone else is buying it for him....just wondering. I see alot of the younger folks always say they don't have any money but they never say anything about looking for jobs with more hours or working multiple jobs, not getting down on ya' but if you want something bad enough you will find a way to work for it!!!! good luck.
