I have a 76 Maverick andi am taking out the I-6 and putting in a 302. I am having a Machine Shop do my engine and it is a mustang 302 with roller lifters. The are going to put in a 347 stroker kit, Aluminium Heads, edelbrock performer intake, 750 cmf edelbrock carb, and a 5000v distributer. I am going to put on header and i wanted to know if you guys could gess what HP i would get and if that stuff sounded good.

Thanks any input would be great

P.S. i don't know a lot about engine so work with me thanks

    Depending on cam,compression and other tidbits,I'd say 400-ish.Hang on:clap:

just remember that with that much hp you still have to get it to the ground and then you have to be able to stop. plan on upgrading the tranny and brakes, also the rear end. do i see the snowball going downhill?:)

    test it.

Is the shop going to dyno the motor before they give it back to you? If I was going to have a shop do a motor I'd want them to test their work before I got it back. Otherwise how do you know it was done right? How much hp do they say they are going to give you? They should know and be able to tell you pretty close and then do it, if they are a good performance build shop. Roller 347, with a good cam and good heads and compression to match the aluminum, I'll guess 450, although the intake makes me wonder. You didn't list the heads or cam, which are crucial to hp. I quess my main point is you should know what you're paying for before you pay for it, and be quaranteed you get what you pay for.

    thanks

yeah he said he is going to put roller rockers, a real agresive cam, and 10.5:1 compreshion ratio. He also said he wanted to put on a better intake then the edelbrock performer that i had. Him and his father has be doing raceing engine for a long time. What do you think the hp is with that info thanks again

    yup

That sounds like 450. 10.5 compression means to me that he's going for a pretty big cam. It will have to have a big one to run pump gas if that's what you want. And you should definitely let them change the intake. But dyno or not? And still you should get the details, what cam, duration, lift, pattern. People will be asking and you don't want to have to say I dunno.
Oops, forgot you have aluminum heads, so the compression is not so high, brings me back to: What cam?

that kind of engine... i would get it blueprinted... balanced and dyno'd..... piece of mind... after all... what is 450 bucks after you have spent 3500 already?

better to be safe than sorry... the next engine i do... i will be trying to NOT skip any steps...

oh and brakes... rear end... and suspension will be needed... and a real stron steering wheel.. for holding on to....

    :)

    good luck
