Well, I want to run Victor Jr heads on my stroker motor, but it appears that these heads have raised ports. Does anyone run raised port heads? How do your headers fit? Anyone run a 351 with raised port heads?(and stock suspension!) I may have to be the guinea pig on this one...
they are only raised like .125 inch, that's not much. The 6208 headers will work with an 8.2 deck block w/ victor jr's in a stock suspension Maverick, I can't help you on the 351W though. Your best bet will be custom headers. I believe that the bolt holes are not raised though, I think it's only the port.....
It will be a 408. I may just make my own headers if its going to be such a problem to find pre-fabbed ones.
It will be impossible to find "off-the-shelf" headers for your application that are larger than 1 5/8" primary tube diameter. I have been through the header building exercise with a set of 1 3/4" for my old Windsor with TFS heads and am about to go through it again with an 1 7/8" tube and Twisted Wedge "R" heads.
Unfortunately, the TFS heads have a higher exhaust port than the Edelbrocks so I do not think they will work. I would check with any of the well known header companies first. They may be able to recommend someone else who has them if they do not.
http://www.stahlheaders.com If you don't see what you're looking for, call and either ask for Judy or Jere. They'll make anything you want...as long as you're willing to pay for it. Prices aren't as bad as you'd think though.
Ill make my own. I doubt a set of customs would run for a penny less than $600. My labor is free EDIT: Or are you just talking about flanges?
Are you running high ports or something? I just assumed you had twisted wedge heads for your first set...
Either way....you can get the headers in a unwelded kit, or the flanges. That's where my headers came from...I believe they were around $265 for the unwelded kit. Only thing I had to do was weld the tubes to the flanges & hook up the collectors. Easy stuff...and yes they're VERY nice! Best thing I found for under $1000 (for my set-up). Probably shoulda got 2" or 2 1/8" tubes though.
I had the old "Will Burt" highports on my first 351W. The new one will have the "R" heads. Both have raised exhaust ports but the old TFS ports are higher (.750" vs. .500" over stock).
Holy crap! $265? Where do I sign up? LOL. Thats dirt cheap, and if its anywhere near that price I'll snag an unwelded set. Heck, anything below $400 and Im good
Like I said, you have to call them. Mine were unwelded "kit" that supposedly had one tube bent wrong. Worked great for what I was doing...and I never saw a bent tube or anything else for that matter....a couple of the primaries were too long (to be expected with a "kit") but a sawzall fixed that. BTW, the people I actually got the kit from (I was at a chassis warehouse at the time, asking about headers for my concoction, and they pointed me to Stahl...which I called them and that's how I found these headers) is gone. She sold out about a year or so ago. EDIT: I found a pic of the pass. side header (no paint yet!) JUST after I welded them up. http://mmb.maverick.to/attachment.php?attachmentid=3890
