I put a Clifford header on a 250 six years ago and everything else was stock. It did pick up some horsepower, so it's not a complete waste. The Clifford had split exits so I ran dual mufflers.

The quietest one they make. :162:

I still believe in going with the header though (and probably a 2" exhaust pipe).

maxpower, did you get more of a V6/V8 sound with the split header? Or, was it still a buzz saw?

I don't remember too much what it sounded like. It was almost 30 years ago. I don't even remember what mufflers I ran.

Definately run a header. Have you ever heard Terry's orange '77 run? May want to find out what kind of muffler is on it.

Dan; if nothing else, it sure would look good under the hood. Terry's car looks good with the header on. Go for it!

Go with the header so next year when you use your christmas bonus on that new aluminum head, you won't have to buy one then.

Well ... my son and I went over to the Mall near Mustangs Unlimited to see Chicken Little in 3D .... and then stopped in MU and picked up the header .... here's a picture of it quickly bolted on the engine ....

Very nice. That's exactly what I plan to do to the Falcon engine.

Dad already polished the carb and the top of the radiator. Just going to get a chrome valve cover and that header next. :)

I have to do some measuring but figure I can bolt it up before installing the engine to make things simpler .... I see you have a mini chrome air cleaner on yours. Not sure what I'm gonna do on mine ... I'm thinking about painting the factory air cleaner base red to match the engine and having the lid Chrome Plated and put the factory 250 decal back on it ..

I converted mine to DuraSpark II and Autozone sells a Red Dizzy Cap to match the engine. Off of eBay I picked up a set of 8mm Blue plug wires with red boots on both ends to match as well ... :)

I like my air cleaner a little better than the stock one. I think this one gets better air flow. It will look nice with the chrome valve cover and header. :)

Dan, what about painting the base of the air cleaner red and the top black? The black would contrast good with the white and blue decal and red engine. Chrome would look cool to though. :)

That's why it is so much easier just restoring a car to stock ... you don't have to make any decisions about colors and stuff ... :)

You still taking the old 250? I plan on pulling the engine on Friday the day after Thanksgiving ... and then reinstalling on Monday ... that give me 2 days to cleanup and paint the engine compartment and let it dry ... I am also off of work on the day before Thanksgiving which I will spend disconnecting everything in preparation for Friday ..

Would you be able to help one or both of those days? Let me know ... Thanks ...

I'm also driving down to Terry's on that Wednesday to get the engine hoist if you want to ride ...

Yea, I definately want that engine. I should be able to help any of those days. But it will have to be after 10:30 AM on the day before Thanksgiving and on that Monday after. Get out of school at 10:30 AM. :) What Wensday are you going to get the hoist? I'd be glad to ride along and help load it.

In fact, if you are talking about the 23rd, me and my grandpa could follow you down there or meet you down there in my grandpa's truck and load up my 200 engine thats sitting in Terry's car port in my grandpa's truck. Then we could help you load the hoist in your truck. That would work out really good.
