You know the story.....really didn't need one...but it doesn't hurt to look...does it? As many of you know...my dad has been a Ford Dealer since 1958. He knows a lot of people. A salesman that worked at at dealership in Indianapolis knew my dad and remembered that he had a son that collected Mavericks. This salesperson calls me and tells me he has a customer that he sold a Maverick to back in 1971...and he wants to sell the car. It is a 1971 2-door Maverick, 302 V-8, AT, Factory AC, Power Steering car...always garaged. 72,000 actual 1-owner miles. Well...I went to look and bought it. Nothing like buying a Maverick from the original owner with the help and assistance of the original salesperson!! The AC still blows cold. Lots of new parts. The interior is absolutley mint. Some minor rust...but not too bad. Ran into a lawnmower on the passenger side...so they shot some primer on the door and fender....I wish they hadn't done that No way I am going to keep all these Mavericks. I will either sell this one and keep the white 1974 LDO. Or sell the 1974 and keep this one. Oh well....no decision needs to be made until Spring. Got them all tucked away in the garage for a long winter's nap. Hopefully this is the last snow this car will ever see!!
As you can see in the pictures.......the back end is really, REALLY jacked up!! Seems the owner had new leaf springs installed. No air shocks...all spring. The back end has NO give what-so-ever. NO bounce....NO movement. Kind of dribbles like a basketball. As you can see in the picture....the second spring is just as long as the one main spring. There is even a one inch lowering block on the passenger side!! Strange!!?? There are 4 leafs. Maybe the long one was added to the old springs.......and everything was painted black to look "new".
Nice find! I'm keeping my eye out for a 302 A/C Auto myself (within a reasonable distance from Houston).
