None of my 4 Mavericks have an engine in them right now. I've got stuff scattered everywhere. I'm about to put the torque converter on my new transmission and something I noticed is that I can't seem to turn the smaller shaft that sticks out the front by hand. I have several other C4 and C6 transmissions laying around and on all of them I can turn that shaft by hand pretty easily. Is it just because this transmission dosen't have any fluid in it or what?

The bigger shaft around the smaller one I can't turn by hand on any of my transmissions, so I guess thats normal.

Ya Jamie It Should Turn ,try A Rag Around The Shaft And A Pair Of Channel Lock Pliers And Rock It Back And Forth . The Shaft Goes Into A Cluth Pack And It Might Be A Little Tight Without Fluid Also Make Sure The Shaft Has The Right Number Of Splines They Made 2 Types And With All Your Varibles ,you Only Want To Do This 1 Time , Make Sure To Put A New Seal In Also

I could just barely spin it with a pair of channel locks. Everything is together now and the engine and trans is in the car.

I got it far enough together last night to start it up. Put the radiator back in and hooked the trans cooler lines back up and got under the car and pulled the shifter to reverse (don't have any of the shifter linkage swapped over from the '74 yet). Dumped some gas down the carb and fired it up, it pulled itself backwords about 3 feet and before it ran out of gas and quit running. So I guess all is well. :)

Seemed like it kinda struggled to move, but I think it's just not got enough fluid in it yet. I dumped 4 quarts in, I probably lost about a half quart out of the torqe converter when I took it off the old transmission.
