HI; I am new to the forum and to the world of Mercury Comets.....through a fortunate circumstance, I managed to acquire a almost new 1973 Comet 2 Dr. - 250 - 6 with 26,000 original miles....it has been stored in a garage for several years and it will be my son's first car......He and I, with asistance from his high school automotive mechanics teacher, are presently replacing any questionable components and we should have it roadworthy very soon....I am looking to add a passenger side rear view mirror that matches the stock driver side unit.... Can anyone guide me as to where I could find this item?

    Thanks Big Dadio 1.

If it is chrome.....Ford never made such a mirror for the passenger side.

Thanks ..yes it is chrome.......if they never made one, then what do most people do in this situation? Is there a similiar style set from another Ford model that would fit and look appropriate? Or is there a period correct after market replica?

    Thanks for the help...

Great find on the Comet!! :Welcome:

You will have to change to the sport style mirror. It is a bullit shaped mirror that was an option for these cars, and OEM on certain models like the GT and Maverick Grabber. They show up on ebay all the time in pairs or singles, with the driver side being the most common single. Expect to pay about $60 or so for a decent pair. Make sure in an auction that you get the gaskets and remote bezel nut. You will have to add the mounting nuts to the doors, even the drivers side has a little bigger spread in the mounts then the smaller stock chrome mirror, so you will have to do that side as well. Do a search on the forum for "sport mirror(s)" and "nutsert(s)" for more info.

Here is pic from a recent ebay auction that sold for about $50.

Nice find on the Comet. Glad to see more Comets coming on the board. I had the same problem as you. I bought a pair of sport mirrors off of Ebay. Plus, I parted out a 73 Comet GT & got all the GT parts for my car. Keep your eyes open on Ebay for good buys...

Thanks for the replys.....great info....I will post some pictures in the next few weeks....the background on the car is that its the preoverbial "owned by a 93 year old little old lady"......it was optioned as a radio delete and the interior looks as if it was never used (everything is just mint).....it is absolutely stock and the car was even Zeibarted! ....None the less there is still some lower body surface rust from some stone knicks to be dealt with....overall a great classic......My son are I are very happy to become a member of the "Comet community"...Thanks again for the help

You might want to check out places like JC Whitney. They probably have a bunch of different mirrors. I doubt you will find a matching one but you should be able to find a set cheaper and easier than the sport mirrors.

67-68 mustangs use a rectangular mirror that is close. The base is a little wider but overall appearance is about the same. Check mustangs plus or mustangs unlimited.
