Has anyone ever seen those window stickers that was around a few years back, that had "Calvin" leaning to one side and had the phrase " I should have had a V8!" I wonder if they have one that is like,,, I did have a V8!! Anyways,,, LOL,,, I did get the 5.0 roller out of the 88 t-bird on Sunday nite. Man, that engine sure does have a lot of accesories to remove!!! But, it took me 3 hours to get the engine unbuttoned, and sitting on the engine stand. Anyone need some t-bird parts? LOL! Im wondering about the oil pan swap,,, I thinkthe oil pan will swap out no problems, but my question is on the sump,,, do I just have to change the sump and screen, or do I get an oil pump from an older engine? Are they all the same basic pump??? Can the sumps just be swapped out? The engine carried 50 lbs of pressure at 190 degrees, so im hoping that all I have to do is get a sump and screen,,,,, I took the advice of a gentleman on this site, about buying engine mounts from Advance auto, got them for 12.99ea. Wonder why NAPA sells em for 25????!!! Thank you sir! A dollar saved, is a dollar I can put into the car someplace else!! I found the 157t, 50oz 10.5 bolt spaced flexplate from the Mustang Depo in California with shipping it was 65 dollars and will be here by the end of the week! Nice guys to deal with! I found the place while searching ebay,,, Now,, on that flexplate,,, when I bolt it on the crank, shouldnt that be timed??? How can you tell exactly where that large weight be located in corespondence with the crankshaft postion to keep it in balance?? There is no pin, to make it specific, nor, does my manual on the engine have any specifics on reinstalling the flexplate,, just says, mark the bolt and location to put back in place the way it was,,, It just raises questions ya know,,,,, I can see removing the old 164t flexplate, noting where the weight is,,, and reinstalling the new plate in the same spot,,, but,,, maybe it is more difficult than that,,, OR,, its just,,,, that simple,,,,,, Is the starter location on the C4,, in the same place as the AOD??? The reason I ask is,, I dont have the tin plate that goes inbetween the block and the C4 tranny, and wondering if the AOD plate will interchange,,, it looks like it might, but Im not sure about the starter location,,, If not, Ill go junkyard shoppin for one,, Thanks for any input you guys can give me! I so much appreciate the info I have got in the past! You guys rock!!!! Mavericks rule! later! ChadS
You will need a front sump oil pan with matching pickup. The oil pumps are the same. Oil pumps are available in Std, High Volume and High Pressure. The standard pump is fine for your application. The flexplate will only bolt on one way due to the bolt pattern layout. Since you are going from a 164t to 157t flexplate you will need a different block plate due to starter location. The aftermarket blockplates are usually equipped to support both locations.
Make sure you put the proper sealant on the crank bolts. On a 5.0 the holes go all the way through to the crankcase, and will leak if you don't. Good luck. Your Friend, Ben
8.8 posi rear end, good AOD, body parts, All I did was take the engine, console, shifter, and the front seats, the rest is there. Chad
