    Hey all...

I pulled into my driveway with my Maverick, an tried to put it in park, and it wouldn't go... so I tried some more, and now it will only go in Drive and Reverse, and the gear shifter just slips around like I cam move it almost entirely freely from park all the way to 1.... the only time it catches is occasionally for Drive or Reverse... It's an automatic as you can probably tell... Is this a bad transmission?

The first thing I would check is to see if the linkage is all together and check the fluid level. Dean

The linkage is what the shifter connects to at the transmission.

When you say you can movve the shifter all the way around freely it sounds like to me the linkage might have come disconnected either under the hood or under the floor board down at the transmission.

Have you driven it since? you say it goes back and forth freely, but when this happened to me it was because i had snapped the 2nd gear band. i could not put it into park and when i drove forward in drive it would just rev up and never shift out of first. check the linkage first but if that is fine i suspect the latter. on the good side, a transmission shop only charged me 100 dollars to replace it with a heavy duty one.

I've seen first hand someone elses do the same thing. He was a long way from home when it happened.

I won't say any names (ok, you drug it out of me. It was DAB). Doug spends so much time BUYING Mavericks, he doesn't have time for upkeep on the ones he has already. ;)

    Linkage versus transmission......Linkage wins, I guess you've already had a Merry Christmas:clap:
