Hi all has any one ever changed the shock towers to mustang ones to install a 390-428 like they did in the early 70s
the more common front end conversion is a mustang II swap in, but I have seen a couple different ones as well.makes enough room for just about any motor in there. as for the engine, ive only heard of one (personally) using an FE block.
Howdy and There are a couple of companies out there making high quality kits to convert to mustang ll.
thanks for the info i already have a conversion kit from rod & custom motorsports but im looking to do the car in more of a nostalgia style as they were done in the early 70s & i already have the 700.00 hooker headers made for the swap
Nostalgia? How about Fast Eddie Schartmans original Boss 429 powered Maverick? This one has been restored. I don't know what they did in '69-'71 to make these fit. Perhaps a straight axle was used as the Mustang II front end was not around yet. Maybe they used the Pinto front suspension-1970? Seth
thanks for all the welcome posts from everyone ,fast eddies car used modified stock towers that were moved out and notched .ive seen old drag film of the car 7 ive also talked to the guys that owned the headman hustler car that was done the same way its to bad ford didnt think of this 6 years after making the thunderbolt
I believe Don Nicholson's car was exactually what your looking for. I cant seem to find my pictures of it.
Here are the pics on the Dyno Don car http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=12852&page=1&highlight=florida+show Back in the early 70's when they moved the shock towers out, it was common practice to cut, section and weld the control arms in order to achieve the needed track width. Don't know how safe this practice actually was or how it would handle on a street driven car. Don't think it is something I want to risk my life with.
Wow, I'd kill for that '73-'79 F250/350 car hauler that car is sitting on in pic 3. Drop my '71 F250 cab and '68 F100 front clip on it and pick up parts cars in style.
