I love the guy with an old Granada that swore had a Boss 302... He popped the hood and pointed to a very dirty Weiand dual plane and says "Look, it has a 4 barrel! It's a Boss!" Me and my friends actually felt bad for the guy. We didn't even laugh... In front of him. He wanted $2300 for that beat up Granada, due to the fact it had a Boss 302. That was 15 years ago too. Back then you were lucky to get 500 bux for a running Granada. Dave
Just sold a '72 Olds Cutlass. Put ALL the rusty places in the ad with pictures. It amazed me how many people came by expecting to find a showroom fresh car in the garage. It got to the point I printed the ad and pictures and took them to the "tire kickers" while they looked at the car. Guess they, like some sellers, only see what they want too. Finally sold that POS. I hate GM.
This scenario is more common that some of you may think. There is a guy here that has two big bumper Mavs sitting along with a '73 Gran Torino and a couple more cars. A Ford truck buddy had told me about the cars a while back. When I had gone to see the owner and try to get the cars, or at least one, he was another who thought he had gold sitting in his driveway (and field as that's where most of the cars were sitting). Most of these people think that just because a car is older, it's worth a lot regardless of condition or they have been given bad advice from someone they think knows what they are talking about. More recently, I found a '73 2 door in a salvage yard right here. He had told me about it being there when I was trying to buy parts for the Mopar copcar I'm restoring. The car was wrecked and rotting. The only real salvageable parts were the inner door panels. He felt the car was restorable and wouldn't consider even selling parts off it. Now, he's being the same way about the copcar parts. It's amazing what some people think!
Too many sunday morning info-mercials about flipping cars for a living. I think people look at a car, see what it COULD be worth and then knock a couple hundred off of that. Never mind the 15 grand it's going to take to get it up to what it might be worth some day. Or, they're just jerks.
I've had those kind of people come look at cars I've sold. But once I had the opposite experience. I went to see a 76 Maverick 2 door that was in the paper. The guy told me it had been inside since the 80's and had 70k original miles, but that someone had pulled the engine and transmission out. He didn't have the drivetrain. He told me there was absolutely no rust and it was an immaculate car. When I got there, I found the front fenders AND rear quarters were rusted out, the interior was sun beat, and the really was no drivetrain (atleast he got that part right). It was FAR from being immaculate. yeah.....didn't buy that one.
just wondering because everyone on here knows more about these cars than i do i found a 74 GT comet the motor is not in it but goes with it and it has some rust on it and it will also have to have floor boards the car needs quite a bit of work but the motor and everything is all supposed to be original and it has all the seats and interior panels except for the door panels ant the guy priced it to me for $1,000 that seemed a little steep to me but like i said i don't know these cars all that well
Pictures would help us determine if the price is good or not. Price may be in the eye of the beholder, but if you don't know what your looking at it's hard to determine what a good price would be.
"it will also have to have floor boards" this could mean "bad cowls"...do the water trick...no leak then it will be worth $200...leak...walk away. "but the motor and everything is all supposed to be original"...this does not make them good, they are out of the car for a reason ...frank..."retired"
I have had my share of maverick myths. There always grabbers even if there not they all had mexican block boss 302s and were always way wicked fast cars. Even the sixs. The 1700 dollar 72comet GT a friend of mine bought it and restored it with some help from me to look kinda like a bearcat. To him it was worth it. The car was rough, but in his eyes it was worth saving. The pink and teal grabber is still forsale wish someone would save that one.
You're kidding. That Grabber is STILL for sale? I had heard that it was sold, but I guess I heard wrong. That car needed a lot of work when I saw it last summer. How much is she asking for it now?
pink and.......who cares what the other color is,.... sounds like one of those designer packages they used to do with the lincolns? pierre cardin, ect... only its most likey from the "john ford" collection :evilsmile
