I am working on a unique engine swap into my 1970 Maverick. The car had an I-6 and manuel steering. The motor that I am putting in has the starter positioned in the same spot I would envision a 302 starter would land. My problem is that I have clearance issues with the center link of the steering system. I am looking for someone with a V-8 Maverick in Minnesota that would allow me to come over and take some measurements of their starter position in referance to the steering linkage. A factory V-8 with manuel steering would be preferrable, but I would be interested in anything available as long as there is a V-8 in it. I live in Hutchinson, MN so; Minneapolis/St. Paul, Mankato, Willmar, St. Cloud areas would be the most desirable. Can anyone help me out here? If so, please send me a PM. Perhaps we can work something out for this weekend yet. Thanks in advance.
only other thought that I had was possibly a small mope...273/318 ect? its been too long from working on one to remember the starter location on them tho.... ok....back to speculating :evilsmile
I expect the following commentary will get me booted from this website, I do however retain a small glimmer of hope that the moderator will understand the issue and put an end to it. I posted my question in the technical section of this forum because I am having difficulty with a technical issue and was hoping that another Maverick enthusiast would be interested in helping me out. This issue has to do with an non-traditional motor swap that I am doing. I have declined to state specifically what motor I am trying to use for 3 reasons: 1. The type or brand of motor has no relevance to the question 2. I am the type of person that does not talk much about what I am currently working on or what I have accomplished in the past 3. I expected that if I listed the motor, all responses would focus on the motor choice and leave the question un-answered. To date I have received 7 responses to my question, none of which address the question nor do they offer any insite into the problem. Instead they go on to specualte in a derogtory manner what I am trying to do and predicte my failure. Respones of this type are not only un-called for, they are childish and immature and if the responders are adults, you should be ashamed of yourselves. You don't know me and you don't know my talents. What right do you have to criticize my project and my talent? Isn't that the kind of crap we try to teach our children not to do? Then why do it here? Isn't the purpose of the forum to help other Maverick enthusists? Moderator, do you understand my point? Will you put an end to this? Delete the crap responses and reprimand those that use this board to put down or question the legitimacy of other Maverick enthusists. Now, is there someone out there that is willing to stand up and help out a fellow Maverick enthusist with a simple request? Come on Minnesotan's, show 'em how it's supposed to work. For the record, all of the responders are wrong about my motor choice. So I guess they don't know it all........... Clean70
Hey Clean, I have a 1974 comet that has a 302. I have taken a few pictures with my daughters camera she will have to email them back to me and I will post them I am more than happy to help in any way I can, good luck. Dean
ford cars should have nothing in them except ford motors. jmo.if you posted this on a bowtie sight,say...you were putting a 351 windsor in a vette, more than likely you would get the same response.you don't like to talk about what you build, present or past, then how can anyone help you out?if you want/need assistance, you gotta let people know what your building.,maybe someone's already done it,and could save you a trip.
I don't see where it matters what he is putting into his car. If he wants to put something different what does it matter. The responsiblty of this form is to help if we can with what he wants. Dean
I see nothing wrong with the responses above. The guys assumed you were putting something other then a Ford engine in the car. In the same manner, you should have assumed you would get those responses on a FORD website when you were apprehensive about listing your engine in the first place. Generally when asking a question on a message board, you list what type of engine you have and what you are trying to do with it and your car so that people can properly answer your question. When you don't do that, one could only assume you are afraid of the responses you would get because of your choice of engine. If your going to mix and match engines and cars, at least have thick enough skin to take the heat. Otherwise you should have no reason not to list your engine type. If the guys above are wrong, why don't you enlighten us as to what engine you are using. You flame knowledgeable, veteran members of this forum when you are the one that failed to provide proper information in the first place. Thats the only thing I see as uncalled for. The whole scenario was easily avoidable.
it doesn't,like i said that was my opinion.i could care less if he wants to put a vw bug engine in his car.my point is :how can someone help him,if he doesn't state the whole situation?
Personally, IMO I would love to see a nicely built 360 Mopar in a Maverick !!! But, that's also coming from a person that had a 327 Vega in high school and would love to build a 390 Pinto wagon !! I guess some people like ordinary and some people like to be different. Kinda like owning a Maverick. I do however, agree that if you post a question suggesting a different than norm application, at least expect some ribbing for it. Darrel
