I can no longer tolerate these complicated and expensive cars from the 1990s, 2000 and up I choose to go back to vintage old american made cars with in line sixes. Have lost out on MANY deals in the last 2 years I guess. I do recall the FORD MAVERICK, I LIKED THEM!!! a 1977 with an in line 6 cyl IS avaialble. But at 250 cubic inch engine in line 6 or not a 250 IS big for a 6 cyl. what kind of gas mileage can I expect 19 around town stop and go OR LESS?! I am drivieing a 1982 ford station wagon 302 engine it is a disaster with mileage!!! I am new new new here 1st post so THANK YOU!!!!!
welcome to the site and good luck on the purchase. you can get enough gas mileage to make driving the mav cheaper than making payments and insurance on a new car. just expect to pay some money up front to repair whatever is wrong with the 30 year old used vehicle. comparitavely though, they are easy to get back to riding like new and fairly cheap to do it with.
I'm getting 18-20 mpg from my 73. 250 auto. 4 door. That's no highway driving, back country roads, mostly under 55 mph. Might be able to get a little better milage with a petronix unit.
THANK YOU for replies about maverick mileage! Wow two replies already. I have not bought the car yet My lady dosent even want me to, and I AM apprehensive on my own. The easy fun part is that I know where the maverick is: in A USED car lot, NO not a junk yard (but it looks like one).....its JUST complicated enough that explaining will take time and thought so PLEASE accept this courtesy to you that I'm not just going to post that 1st one get an answer and dissappear.....would that be rude? What part of nj?????uhm well Central jersey, uhm somerset county Hmmmm maybe this: I LOVE old cars which is quite exclusively what the owner has in this lot. I bought a vehicle some years ago from him, turned to be the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I am a mechanic but no matter what I did it just wouldnt ......I managed to get it about 15 miles from home here before it quit again. I got him to swap the bomb for what he GAVE me. My lady and I LOVE the replacement car.....she wants me to quit while I am ahead BUT I LOVE THAT MAVERICK but it has a larger 6 than i'd like and look who has it/where it is. UNDERSTAND EVEYONE?????? UGH what a predicament!!! THANK YOU
reason i asked where your from is because i grew up in montclair, n.j. left to go in the service when i was 19. many years ago.
Howdy and Although modern day fuel injection is hard to beat milage wise, these cars can get decent figures if tuned properly and driven right. But in my opinion driving a vintage car is worth the sacrifice.
If you think he is going to rip you off, there are other mavs out there. if you think you can get it for a reasonable price, just plan on the cost including some basic repairs to get it reliable. Definately have a mechanic friend look at it if possible.
I hope that its not sitting at main street motors over there in somerville, all he does is mark up junk because he thinks that all his cars are worth big $$. Anyways, good luck with the purchase, I'm not too far from you and have relatives in somerset. Shaun
"scott" is in Sayerville, and he has a 72 4 door with 250 for sale. Would make a nice driver. Look him up.
reply to shaunh82..............BINGO! main st. motors there in Somerville is JUST where this maverick in question is. Guess I better keep looking. My interests also lie in the chevy nova, or pontiacs with that 230 in line six. Or the dodge plymouth slant six (darts, valiants, demons, aspens, volares). CERTAINLY IF A NICE OLD MAVERICK CAME THROUGH THOUGH!!! I saw someone's post with a referral I better go look at again BUT my income is meager...............FOLKS tell ya all what, a question please: what can I expect to get for really just a mere .........uhm......"couple"...a few hundred. Am I not being specific enough??? I'm on a budget!! THANK YOU!!!
to Russ Thanks to shaunh82 (thank you shuanh82!!!) I can see I am giving up on the 1st maverick in question. I am just TOO new at this forum to know how too contact anyone, how do I contact your referral please??? AND THANK YOU!!!
