My '72 with the 250 and Duraspark II ignition gets 24-25 mpg on the interstate and 20-22 around town. You gotta drive it right though. And I've got mine tuned to the extream. 13,000 miles on the plugs and they still look like brand new. My Maverick is getting roughly the same mileage as my mom's 2002 Taurus SEL.
compression Hey dude, First thing I did was visually inspect the body, interior, chassis. After I was happy with that, I checked to see if it would start and stay running, and it did but rough. So.... All I needed to really do was check the compression in the cylinders to tell if the internal engine more than likely was sound. All cyl.'s checked out at 160lbs of compression so I knew that the roughness was more than likely the carb. or such... SO the best advice I can give anyone is check the car visually first and if it is nice or what you can manage, then go for the compression check to make sure of the engine. Lance aka "The Shredder"
Make sure you check the frame in back where the leaf springs attatch to the frame. CHECK FOR ROT. I had to learn the hard way and my dad had to completely redo the frame in the back.
What is he looking to get for the car at mainstreet? If you want, I could take a look at it and give you my opinion, not too far from where I work. Let me know, I am not looking for another car so you don't need to worry about me stealing it on you Shaun
