Changed the oil in the 73, 250 this weekend and somehow ended up 1/2 q. over full. Should I worry about this? or will it be ok until the next oil change?.

I doubt it would hurt anything but if your worried, Frank has a good plan.

 Hey Russ, I would rather run a engine a 1/2 qt low than a 1/2 qt. over full.I'm a firm believer that the excess oil has got to come out somewhere....usually the front or rear seal.If your car has any sign of even the smallest of leak...I would probally say,"It'll be OK......Most cars makers today saw the light of this situation and provided a maximum over fill mark on the dipstick. If your motor is leak free especially, freshly rebuilt(new rings)...It could do more harm than good, especially at high speeds(rpms).Good Luck,Hotrod-Daddy(y)

You could also loosen the oil pan drain plug. Dunno which would be messier, unscrewing the oil filter or drain plug.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it (and deal with the consequences later) ...... :drink:

In the old days I used to run an extra qt of oil in mine, just cause I was so hard on it, specially at high RPM,s. Old timer told me as hard as I run a car I should run extra oil,, dont think it ever hurt it. Nowadays,, I keep everything right on full.

1/2 wont hurtI run 1/2 quart over in the mav just to be safe.

1 quart over is pushing it IMO. Crankcase pressure starts to rise and increases chance to develope leaks.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think I'll worry about it right now. If I get a chance and it's nice out next few weekends maybe I'll pull the filter and drain it. I guess I should have let the old oil drain a little while longer. I was concerned about the over full getting to the crank but I don't think a 1/2 q will get that high. Russ

Mine was the same as Frank's.
Mine blew it out of the dipstick tube and vent on the valve cover. Didn't do it unless it saw over 4000rpms. One of the reasons I'll be building the engine. Compression rings are going south.

On topic, I wouldn't worry about it.
