I have the new carpet and rear seat now installed. With a little effort....it fits right in and covers up my 12" sub speaker. This is a comfort weave material. One thing you may (or probably NOT) notice is that the comfort weave material was only available on a 1971 Maverick. 1971 Mavericks did not have retractable seat belts in the back seat. My 1972 did not have retractable seat belts as most 1972 Mavericks did, but did have the lap belts coming up thru the kick panel. Putting any retractable belts was easy as everything bolted right in and I could use the same side seat panels. But it means I had to change the 1971 comfort weave rear seat....both top and bottom..as it is shaped differently and would not fit with the 1972 rear seat side kick panels. I had a comfort weave interior out of 1971 Maverick. I had to take the back seat from the 1971 comfort weave car as well as my back seat out of my 1972 to the upholsterer so he could make it all fit. Just a simple removal and swapping of the frames was all it took...as well as trimming and resewing along the edges. Up next is finishing up the wiring on the inside, install the AC/heater box, install the steering column, and install the bucket seats and the interior will be pretty much done.
I also am taking it up a notch so to speak!! I personally like the look of traction bars.....or slapper bars. Nothing says "the 70's" like the look of a traction bar peaking out behind a set of white letter tires mounted to a set of Cragars!! One thing I don't like is how they rust after being installed for awhile. I bought a brand new set of traction bars off of ebay for like $30...half of what they cost new at JEGS, Sumitt, etc. I took them to a chrome plater and had them triple chrome plated with extra nickel, copper, etc. These babies should not rust!! Since I didn't have them polished....it only cost $35 each to have them done. They really SHINE!!!
looks good man ..who did the chrome they close to you ?? think all the places around here went under cause new EPA
craig, looks great i tucked my rear lap belts behind the seat. cleaner look and no one rides back there anyway ...frank...
I have several places near me. The place that did the traction bars. They do pot metal and they also polish stainless and aluminum. I have never used their pot metal service or their polishing service: Custom Metal Finishing 9705 St. Rd 38 Hagerstown, IN (765) 489-4089 The place near me that does pot metal (they did my Maverick Boomerang Chrome). They did a good gob on my boomerangs, but they have a real "attidude" and terrible customer service and turnaround: J & P Plating 807 N. Meridian St. P.O. Box 16 Portland, IN 47371 (260) 726-9696
Looks great Craig!! You have time to work on it now that there is no more football for you to watch. Unless you want to see the Steelers win the Superbowl.
Kinda stingy with the pics there Craig :16suspect What I see looks really good So... Emiril you gonna put Ansens with steerhead center caps on it...BAM
I'm stingy with the pictures because I am even stingyer with the work. Plus...what I am doing right now really isn't anything to look at: wiring. I got all the wiring for the sub speaker done...so I could put in the rear seat. Now I need to finish up the rest of the wiring and then I can move on to the "pretty stuff". For wheels I am thinking some Cragars like the ones on that white and blue car that pops up on here every once and a while!!
I thought you were putting Magnums on it Craig? either way Cragars and Magnums both are great looking wheels.
