why not just put a 250 or 200 in it if you put a 250 in it you can use any tranny that the 302 can use , I don`t think that the drums will work .

Just my opinion, but you are completely in the wrong hobby if you are even remotely considering this. I know it was an honest question, so I won't criticize you too badly.

A while back someone had asked about putting a chevy 350 into a maverick, and we explained why that would not be a good idea.

Now to swap out a 6 cylinder motor, and not even upgrade to a v8, and put a chevy 6 in on top of that would likely wind up with hours and hours and hours of fusteration, only to realize you have a frankenstein maverick with chevy 6. You can find ford motors/transmissions for a dime a dozen. Keep it ford, for at least simplicities sake. If not, sell it and pick up a nova.

I'm with ya there. If you want a 6 cyl, any of the available motors will work great. 170, 200, or the more desired, 250. The manuals behind these have the same bolt pattern as a toploader. So once you convert it to stick, you can go with a toploader 4 spd or, better yet, get an adapter (available at any Mustang parts house) and slap in a T5 for some super cruzin and gas milage.

What I am reading is this, you are wound up about this deal cuz you are getting a 5 spd trans tossed in free. Okay, so you got a trans tossed in that might be worth $150.00 So after spending $800.00 in fabrication, wiring and bracket modifications to make it all work, what have you saved? Drop a FORD V-8 in it and save yourself some dread and bread.

Hey Maverick-Austin I am planning a V8 swap in mine this winter. My car has a 200 in it right now and it only has 35,000 miles on it. If you are looking for a six you can have mine I am in Southern IN. I will have no use for it and it seems that you can't give them away anyway. It does not have a standard tranny but you are welcome to this engine. Just a note I just drove the car to Springfield MO and I didn't use a drop of oil and it never ran hot so I know that it is in great shape so let me know if you might be interested.

As long as things go the way I want it will be this winter when I pull it.
