yeah been thinking about it... i already have the 4:11 thrid member sitting around... but first things first.. gonna take the car out again since i fixed the sub frame. heres a photo of the subframe redone. way more clearance! Erick thanks for the info today on the bolt! Lets go racing!
I got 4.11's in mine and thay work great if you use a 275/60r15 on the street and 28/9 slick she's nice. I'v had some 1.48 60" on the stock springs with slapper bars.
i'd be happy if i ever get in the 1.60 60' times. i'm usually in the 1.70s's or 1.80's running 4:33 gears.
Ericks running a 331 i think its like 13.5:1 but i'll let him tell you i'm running a 347 like you but its only 9.0:1 - hyd roller more specs here http://www.maverickman.com/WhiMav.html [wonders what the car would do with ported heads and a bigger cam ] all i'm hoping for is a 7.55 @ 90mph and i'll be happy. but i know i'll want to go faster so i do want to put a blower on this puppy one day though. me and Erick will be going out again probably after the All Ford Round Up sometime in April
I think your car would run better than that if you get the suspension working better. I dont think my car has any more power than yours and its been 7.19 on pump gas n/a.
Yeah my car is almost that fast (if it fell off a cliff, LOL), too bad I live in Florida or else I'd love to be out there watching maverics and comets racing.
Maverick Man, what I saw in the video was this. 1) You either don't have as much stall as erick-mav does or your stall not working as well as it should, if it is working then you need to look at your shock, tire and caltrac combo. Your 60's are so different that you just got beat from the start. 2) Next time you two race you need to post both time slips so we can see the reaction times and the 60 foot times. 3) A good set of adjustable front shock would help, buy the best you can afford. That way you can change them back to a street ride when you are done. Rear shocks are just a BIT$H unless you can find a NOS drag shock for the maverick and they haven't been made for 20+ years that I know of. Rick Book was right on EVERTHING he told you to do! The only thing you need to make sure of is putting a starting mark on your caltracs and remember which way you turn them. The best way I've found is to have someone with about the same weight as you sit in the drivers seat and at first just have the bolt touching the leafspring. Make a pass. then go 1/2 turn away from the leafspring lifting the bolt off or up with little to no pressure on the spring. Now make another pass. Don't change ANYTHING else while you are doing this!! Now go back to where you started with the bolt just touching and go 1/2 turn putting more pressure on the spring, at this point you should see which way is helping and keep going in that direction until you find the best setting. The only draw back is not all tracks hook the same but this should get you in the ball park of where you need to be. My car LOVES preload but KillerComet's car likes to hit and make the springs work to hook, so different setups take a little work to find the SWEET spot. I knew I'd find a way to get my favorite word in here. Keep a record of every pass, most people don't know this but everytime you place a order with Summit Racing you can ask the sells person for a record book and they will put one in your order for free. I have friends that win and win alot, they keep a record of everything, air temp humidity, front and rear tire pressure, I mean everything! Maybe that's way they win. Hope I've helped Good luck and as always just my .02 Terry Gates AKA Bossmav
Very well said Bossmav........... AFR heads left Cali. yesterday sould be at Maxflow by middle of next week and Dusty said he would get right on them. I cant wait.....!!!!
KillerComet, just give me a call when Dusty has finshed working his magic and I'll bring everything to Winchester. I can't wait to see how the orange machine runs with all this new found air. Should be "SWEET"!! :bananaman Bossmav
hum.. i don't know 7.19 seem a bit too fast for my car to make nah i just slept at the line.. my stall is 4k in the vid i launched it 3k cuz at 4k it was just spinning tire! check it out you can see it flash from 3K to 4K right away but yeah i just really slept! wait the green light means go... ah yeah.. maybe i should go the 60 ft on my best run was 1.77 which was way off from the last time i took it out with just slapper bars.. which was running 1.64 - 1.68 i already have 90/10 but for the rear.. yeah no one makes anything for it... looks like i gotta relocate everything. yeah i set everything at a base line of 1/4 turn on the driver side and a 1/2 trun on the pass. i might just set them at zero as you said and then go from there too. at least now i can adjust them where as before i couldn't even move the cal tracs cuz teh sub frames were in the way. and yes i will log everthing.. infact thats why i video tape to so i can see where i'm shifting and what not without the using the playback on the tach. but thanks for the info. as soon as these kidney stones pass i will be ready! i just of the phone with Erick today and we are talking maybe going again sometime before May... at least we hope. if he can't make it i'm going on my own
Kidney Stones... OUCH. Sorry to hear that! Hope you feel better real fast. (we need a get well soon icon) Good luck with the car and just like everyone else I can wait to see the next video. Bossmav
