Ok, I have been out of touch for quite awhile until I recently acquired my latest Maverick as far as cost of used parts. I just visited a junkyard here looking for a 5-lug Maverick rearend. I actually found a Maverick and Comet that are both 5-lug cars. First, would all years of Mavericks and Comets ( 1970 and above) have the same length rearends? Second is $325 for the entire unit drum to drum a good price? One of these cars also has front disk brakes but no power assist. I always thought disk brakes always had power assist, but anyways would this disk brake setup without power assist work better than just the regular drum brakes I currently have?

too rich for my blood. but i don't know what others are paying. i think you'd be better off finding a complete parts car somewhere and parting out what you don't need. :)

In answer to your question. The disc brake swap (non-power), is the best update you can do. I have a 73 Comet, that I put 74 Comet manual disc on the front. Best thing I ever did for the car. Alot better than manual drum brakes. As far as I know, all the rearends are the same length. I have a set of Granada manual disc brakes, I'm going to put on my 70 Grabber, or 74 Comet 4dr. Sounds like a good deal on the price.

Thats way more than doubled the price for a complete rear around here. All Maverick & Comet 5 lug rears are the same width. Only difference is if it came from a disc brake car. The hubs are bigger on a disc brake car so you need to check your wheels for fit if you get one.

a third member (pumkin) with 2:79 0r 3:00 goes for $125.00 where as a one with a 3:55 will cost you $250.00, third menber only, I would think that if your getting a whole (meaning springs, housing, drums etc.) that is at least a 3:00 ratio, then it's not a bad price, but then again if you shop around you may get the whole car for that. Your call!

If you werent in cali i would sell 1 for 150.. the centre section with some sort of gears and a posi are selling for 450 to 550 in the USA..this is for a new pumpkin.. but its your money:2cents:

Here in the northeasst the rear axles go for $75.00-125.00, complete front disc setup $50.00-75.00. Most of the salvage yards that still have old cars have a uniform price for parts, they don't care what it came out of or how rare it is, all axles are the same price. Some even have a price list available at the counter. Gary's near Binghamton NY has a bus that will drive you around the yard which is organized by make. You ride up front and throw your parts and tools in the back. Last time I was there they had two Mavericks, $5.00/ea door glass, $25.00/ea seats, $30.00/ea complete doors, rear axles $75.00. Harry's in Hazelton PA has the same system but is probably the largest salvage yard in the world, A few years ago they had lots of older cars but when I stopped there last June on the way to Carlisle they had gotten rid of all the old cars including 6 Mavericks.

That price is a complete rip off. I can get an entire 5 lug rear drum to drum for less then $100 here.

Yeah... Harry's was an awesome yard. Last time I was there ... years ago ... they had a really nice 72 Blue Grabber in the wall of cars that surrounds the place. It had a really nice bucket interior but was impossible to get too ...

It is the only Junk Yard I ever saw that had a snack bar setup where you could hang out and buy lunch, coffee, etc ...

We've got a decent place in Blackstone MA, Henry's. Set prices and a few old cars. Currently there are two Mavericks, 72 and 77. $75.00 for a rear axle, any type. I got most of the good stuff already.
