Ok I have a D.S.S. 306 28oz balance, with low compresion dished pistons and a forged ( 70 Boss 302 modded for one piece rear main seal) crank sitting around ready to go. My question is has any one here run the Paxton NOVI 1200 carbed kit? If so how was it? Did it fit ok? I know it's made for 65-68 Stangs but the layout of the Maverick looks the same. The Mav already has all the other mods nessasary to handle the power (Frame connectors, 9" detroit locker 3.70s ) I am running a T-5 (Yes I can say boom) but will upgrade soon. I have ported Windsor heads with 56 cc chambers so the compression is still below 9:1 with the dished (13cc dish I think) pistons. My other choice was a D&D 327 shortblock N/A with the usuall mods. I just am attracted to the fact that the car will be very drivable since I can put a mild roller cam and get better milage out of the 306 when not in boost. And the thing would make alott more power too. The car is sometimes driven on long trips. Gets 16 MPG right now. and runs mid 13s With the tired old 302. Any help or advise would be helpfull. Even if you know someone who has one. Thanks.
Go with the supercharger, youll love it. Although i have the roots type on my Maverick, I have several coustmer cars with The centrifugal type on theirs. They are easier to install, require little to no maintance. Although i have had no experance with the blow thru on the carb. end. I dont see it being a problem with a complete carb encloseure. THERE IS NO POWER LIKE THE POWER OF BEING BLOWN.
Thanks for the advise. I am looking for a NOVI 1200 kit right now. I think you're right since supercharging seems to be the easy way to a mild mannered 11 second car. What cams are popular with your customers? It will be mainly a street car with some track time and trips to the coast. Blown 5.0- what roots blower do you use? Is your car a street car?
Tony Hahn has the drivers side mount Paxton kit on his car. http://mmb.maverick.to/gallery/showimage.php?i=1017&c=26 I have a pic somewhere of a red car with the passenger side mount kit. I don't know who owns it.
Thanks for the pic now I know it will fit. I think I'll go for the driver side mount. It leaves more space if I want to add an aftercooler later on.
We all use the same cam, its a old Bennett Racing grind by lunati. I and one more of the cars run the B&M 177 cid blower. My car is 101% street driven, (only way i would have it)
Before you jump into the Paxton you might want to check out ATI Procharger. They have carbureted kits available for small block Fords.....with and without an intercooler. http://www.procharger.com/systems.shtml Click on "Carbureted" at the top of the page. Shows several Chevy installations but I have the catalog at the shop and they have the Fords too. Plus....no tapping the damned oil pan!!!!
I guess there is always the argument of which is better pressurized carb box or blow through I have heard that it is much easier to tune a pressurized box setup. I have seen and heard (impressive) the 70 Blue big block Camaro on the Procharger website.
Yea. I hear you need a specially prepped carb for the bonnet. I like the Paxton also because it's cheaper. I could easily intercool the Paxton kit if I get the driver side kit. It gives me more pipe to work with. Room for a Vortech aftercooler I have not heard of anyone with a small ford set up with the Procharger. Thanks though...
Anytime you use a carb. with a supercharger you will need special prep. There is also a thousand other things that will have to be special prepped. But in the end it will all be worth every minute it took to make it work.
Here's another place to pick up lots of good info for blow through carb applications. Blower or turbo. http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php That should be the main index page. Go to Carb + Boost.
