Hi there Again! Next Problem: The heater in my car is not working... I know even less about heaters than i do the rest of the car, so if you guys could help me out. What would be a good order for things to check out? How would i know if they work? Any bad signs? Also, anybody had any luck at any particular place for these kinds of parts? Thanks Sean
The heat is not difficult in our cars, 2 long narrow hoses run to your firewall to a heater core, these cores become plugged over the years. Or, your thermostat is not allowing warm engine coolant to enter the heater core, the heater core is actually another little radiator located where that nice old blower motor spins and gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling on a cold day. Maybe the door that allows your warm air to enter the passenger compartment is closed? You may have to crawl under the dash to see this, this is very simple and you can follow the heating system in one of these cars easily. Another thought, I remember the old days when people in southern Californy did not order heaters in their cars, IE the little old lady from Pasadena in her shiny red super stock dodge and so forth and so on. Keep us posted. Dan
First thing I would do is verify that coolant is flowing through the heater core. Start the car and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, then take it on a trip around the block to get everything warmed up and flowing. Then feel both of the hoses to see if they are both warm. If your getting flow to the heater core, check to see if the dash controls are operateing the door and stuff. If they are not, try manually opening the door by hand. If all else fails it could need a new heater core. This is all assuming that the blower motor is working... you should be able to hear it whirrr when you turn the Fan switch to high with the key on.
What do you mean when you say it does not work. The blower motor does not come on or you do not get any heat when the motor does come on? Dean
Ya, I actually do. Especially this weekend, estimated snow level down the 1000 feet above sea level, and we are at 950!!!!! I have never seen snow fall so it could be pretty exciting! And yes, i do need a heater due to the fact that i leave for school at like 550 in the morning, when its about 45! Thanks for the help, Sean
In my car happen this kinde story: before the firewall, my car have vaccum motor, working with ac. AC on, warm off. Before that vaccummotor the hose was clogged about 5 inc. But I find out that after coolant came in on the passanger side because pressure from other hose, destroid the heater core. Then I let repair it, but it leak when I drive faster then50, then I find new. So, it is a nice job, to get this heater core from this ac/heater box. I do it three times... Relise the hose clamps, start the engine, pull this hose, carifully off from core, if you see coolant, put it back. then the other hose, if you see coolant, watch where from the coolant come, if from core then its good, if not by new one. Be careful with pulling that hoses off from heater core, copper heater core do'nt like to mutch power when handling.
When its 45 deg. here in so. cal and the snow level is down to 1000 ft. its pandomonium with the local news channels, cracks me up. Yesterday it was hard rain and a hail storm like I havent seen in about 8 yrs. Just my opinion.. so. cal cars dont needs no heater. Wear a parka. j/k . Like everyone else says use the process of elimination, You should find the problem quick.
