Does the 351 windsor crank fit into the 302 block? Does the main bearings etc etc on the 351 crank, does the mains have to be tuned down to fit the 302, or is it a direct swap out? Would the older 351 crank fit a 88 roller engine? Thank you! Chad
No. There's really no more to the answer either. The mains are too far off to be cut down cost effectively. It would be cheaper to buy a stroker crank. Probably cheaper to buy a steel crank. Dave
if you want to stroke up from the 302 block, I suggest googling for a parts list on the 347 stroker. You should be able to get some numbers on what you'd need.
it'd probably be just as cheap to buy a crank for a 347 than to have the 351 machined anyway. there's lots of kits for a 347. just type in 347 in ebay motors and see what you come up with.
if i stroke it,... i am going with a 331 stroker... i think the 347 is a bit too much for a stock 302 block... problem i have heard is the 347 is taking the 302 to the extreme limits... and of course too much stress on an already thin and weak block.. unless you get a roush or man of war block... but a stock block... i have heard a 331 is just as powerful and not as risky... im off too far off base.. let me know... this is how we learn
You're off base. If the 347 is assembled correctly there are no issues and you'll have 16 more cubic inches. The difference in cylinder wall loading is negligible. The difference might be the 331 will last 110,00 miles and the 347 will last "only" 100,000 miles. I'll take the 16 extra cubes. (Oh, wait, I already did!)
the 347 i know of cracking the block was running some big nitrous boost. only 100-110k miles? makes the 230k my stock block ran before a rebuild seem massive
