I took out the 924 Mav for the first time today. I have done a complete brake overhaul (wheel cylinders, brake lines, pads and master cylinder) that prevented me from test driving it since my purchase. I was as excited at 39 years old as I was the first time I drove my 69 1/2 when I was 15. I did however, encounter a tornado of leaves coming through the air vents. It was distracting to say the least. Does anyone know how to get all the leaves out from the cowl vent area?

Sounds like the first time I drove my '74 Grabber back in April of last year. Me and my family drove the car down to Chili's to eat supper the first night it was street legal. First time the car had been over 25 mph under it's own power in over 10 years. Was kind of cool out so I turned on the heat, all a sudden at about 50 mph leafs and junk started blowing out of the vents and all over the inside of the car. My mom freaked out, I was dieing laughing. :) I miss that car.

Depends how much is in there. I once had a Maverick that was about 3 inches deep in pine needles in the cowl. I pulled the driver side air vent and the entire heater box. I stuck the hose of a wet/dry vac up inside the cowl through the vents and with patience got it all out ...

There is quite a bit of leaf stems. I only drove it about 2 miles because it isnt registered yet. Will most of it blow out if I just drive it for a while? If not how hard is it to remove the heater box and air vent? The car will be garaged for the rest of its life (unless I go first of course).

When I was 16 I had a 3 speed 69 1/2 170 Maverick as my first car. I had friends that had suped up muscle cars but I never had money to fix my car up etc. One day in the high school parking lot a bunch of guys were showing off their cars doing donuts and screeching tires and then it was my turn. I had all their attention when I floored my 170 and popped the clutch and got the shortest split second screech and I got applause because I had always been unsuccessful trying to squeal the tires. My friend John who had a Dodge Dart nicknamed my car that day the "924 Mav" after the Porche 924. And we nicknamed his the "Dart 280 Z" after the Mazda 280 ZX.

    pine needles ETC

go out and buy a cheap blower nozzel for a air compressor.. take out the end that the air comes out and put in a 3/16 brake line and fitting with about 9in of brake tubing.( can be bent easily to any shape) .Now put the tubing in all the crevaces and holes and start blowing towards 1 side..then go back the opposite way.. I did this about 3 times and all needles and leaf debris was gone.. hope it works for you:2cents:

Many moons ago I was running down the interstate in my Sprint with 3 large garbage bags filler with those styraphone (sp) peanuts, in the back. No air so all the windows were open. Well the air turbulance untied one of the bags and all of a sudden those things were flying everwhere. Must have looked pretty silly for any one following me. I think half the bag flew out of the windows and the rest were all over the interior.
