has anyone tried a rechromed bumper from bumperboyz out of los angeles, cal.? is the chrome job any good or is it just a cheap chrome job that dont last?
I have bumper boyz bumpers on both my cars. They look fine. I can't speak about durablilty because both my cars are garage kept and only get wet when I wash them so the bumpers are never exposed to the elements.
bumper boyz are pretty good, they send all there parts to Mexico for rechroming and polishing, they usually are at the Moultrie,Ga swap meet twice a year as well as other events through out the year.
I used them in the past. I have found good bumpers and bad bumpers from them. My advise is to actually go to a show they are at and unwrap the bumper right there and inspect it. If it has flaws make them haul out another one for you until they give you one you can live with. This is what I have done as they are at the Jefferson shows here in Wisconsin. You can also take your old bumpers to the shows and sell them to them. With any rechromed part, make sure you polish it regularly to protect the finish. My is go to Tri City Plating for bumpers. Not really much more cost then Bumper Boyz and superior quality. Since I started getting Tri City bumpers, I would not go back to BBz. http://www.tricityplating.com/ Just my Eric J
We sent a bumper off a RoadRunner to them for re-chroming. When we got it back it looked terrible. You could see all the sand scratches in it and the plating was so thin on the ends you could see through it. The worst part was that it was not the same bumper we sent them. The one we sent was the perfectly straight original one off the car. The one they sent back was twisted. They kept the one we sent and sent us back one from thier stock. Our customer was NOT a happy camper. I will not deal with them again. From now on we deal with TriCity.
I've heard little good about them, though I have no personal experience. What happened to Jean is usually how they do business, they keep your core and send out one that has already been replated.
I have a rear bumper from them, and it is fine. That said, I had to get a second bumper from them, as the first one was twisted and did not fit. This one is fine, and looks good. They were easy to work with, and offered no resistance when I called about the bad bumper.
i have one from them too... for the price you can't beat it... then again i got it over 4 years ago. but it did have a small flaw in it.. almost looks like hair in the chrome... i you can i'd go down there and would take a look at it first before getting it so you can check it.
I shall personally never buy from them again. Took me 5 months and 3 different bumpers to get what I thought was an acceptable rear bumper...now that one also is starting to go bad. It's been less than one year and there are several little hairlike flaws in it. I dread even having to call them.
I bought 1 bumper from them at Carlisle many years ago. The first one I rejected, the second one had a flaw but it was on the bottom and I needed one now. A friend went through 3 before he got one he liked. It turned out to be the one I turned in as a core.
My dad got his Comet bumpers done at Tri City back in the early 90's. We put about 20,000 miles on the car with them on there and they still looked great when we sold the car in 2002. Car was a garaged show car, but they held up great IMO.
I've got front and rear bumpers from them. Had to exchange the rear once. Other than that they were fine. The local chromer wanted $250.00 per bumper. I think I paid only 165.00 without a core. I would not order them shipped. I would pick them up in person and inspect them before I paid. My Ken
I picked mine up in person and they let you check them out before purchasing them. They go to all the shows ... Moultrie, Charlotte, Carlisle, etc .... For guys in GA ... I had a bumper plated in Dallas Georgia, place called Dallas Plating. They charged me $150 for the front bumper on my Grabber.
