i own a 67 mustang and purchased a run-of-the-mill 302 engine and tranny a lil over 4 yrs ago. the guy i got it from said it was pulled from an 'ole maverick'. i went thru the engine and used it ever since then in the mustang and just took it out yesterday. when i took it out i got curious about what kinda maverick it came out of so i found the engine stamping on the block and decoded it today when i came in from work. well guess what, it came from a 1972 Maverick Grabber (vin: 2x93f198436):bananaman . how cool is that?! i plan on adding some new gaskets to the engine and dropping it in my '71 2 door here soon. i'd like to try to find the car this weekend as well, as i still remember where the guy lives. Wish me luck!!!

good score. Keep in mind though, that the engines were no different than the non grabber v8 mavericks.

yeah, i know. but im not after a big boss 302 powerplant or anything. i just thought it was interesting to know. i just thought the idea of it actually being a grabber engine, and me not knowing it for over 4 yrs, was pretty cool.

It would be interesting if someone was restoring that Grabber right now and wanted to buy the engine from you.
Seems like it would almost never happen that a matching VIN car and engine would reunite after all these years apart.

if someone actually had the car and was wanting the engine for their restoration, i would have to sell it to 'em just to see the engine go back to the car that it belongs to. as if the engine could find it's "home".....and i am aware there is no difference between a 'grabber' 302 and any other 302 but sometimes its just nice to have a lil bragging rights...:D

Pretty Cool ... The BOSS 302 guys spend big bucks to get the original engine back for their cars ... The original Mav is probably long since crushed ... :(

:UPDATE: i located the 72 grabber that i was looking for!!! ....as i said, i went thru some people from yrs back when i bought the engine and i just found the car today. if all goes well, i will have the car by saturday. it's all there for the most part, just in rough shape. still has the 'ducktail' on it and everything but missing hood, but i already have one :bouncy: . as soon as i get it i'll be sure and get some pics on here for y'all to see. but with me finding this one i have another big thought now, what will i do with my 71 2door and where will i put them all??! but hey, this is a good problem! (y)

wow, nice save. A little backwards, that's what makes it cool, buying an engine then finding a car for it :)

Very cool, they probably would have let it sit and rust to nothing.
