I am currently buying parts left and right for my engine swap, which is supposed to go down around May 10th. Never fail, the machine shop has two motors ahead of mine (1 man owner/op) and it may not get done until a week or so after that. This will be my first engine swap, and a friend of mine and I will be putting the valvetrain together ourselves (cam, lifters, pushrods, rocks, etc). I know when it comes down to the final hours, I don't want to be rushed, or broke. Right now, I'm digging a pretty good debt hole, and planning on working my way out of it this summer. That also means that I may not have the funds or time to be taking a trip down to the roundup. I guess there is always next year. P.S. If any of you local guys think you'll have a day to spare around the end of May, first couple weeks of June, let me know, I could certainly use the help fine tuning from some Maverick gurus.
hope you get it done in time. one of the best things i did when i was starting was to get the "how to rebuild your small block ford book" from hp, i think it was. this was great in making sure i went step by step and didn't forget anything. good luck.
When It Get Close To That Time Let Me Know I Use To Live In Cahokia Ill So I Know Where You Are At With 4:11 Gears It Will Take A While To Get There
I'm convinced that, 90% of the time, the amount of time to complete a build is directly proportional to it's drop dead date. Meaning, if you need to have it completed in 30 days, then that's how long it will take you - to the day. If the deadline is 7 days, then that's how long it will take you - to the day. 'Seems that way to me, anyhow.
Well get the heads assembled and give them to the machine shop along with the cam.. He will need these to check areas as he assembles the engine.. I am in the same process as you only its the body shop that is 2wks behind. . Was supposed to be painted and on my trailer by April15th..still in 1st primer coat The shop is now tellin me I will have it by May6th. lets hope so..The car rite now is nothing but 4 wheels and a steering wheel, completely stripped down..A lot of work to put back together, plus the new headliner and glass, both front and back.Whew . If not finished ,there is goin to be sad faces as alot of people are expecting this car to show up at round-up..Iwill be there come hell or high water with or without the car. As Johny said it is better that you at least come to round-up.Lots have done this in the past..
LOL Rick, so true. I bought my '72 December 1st with no drivetrain, and the brakes and all electrical not working. I had to have it running and street legal to drive to school by January 4th. It may have had no hood, 4 lug rear wheels and 5 lug front, no interior, and a rigged exaust, but by god, I drove it to school on January 4th!
Did my v8 conversion to my Maverick my senior year in high school. Got home from school on Friday afternoon, pulled the 6, on Sunday it was driving with v8 power. Bruce let me know how it goes and I will try to help.
My junior year in college, was working at a shop in Foscoe NC(had never performed a motor swap alone)....I pulled the car in on a Friday evening, Sunday morning I was pulling out with a 90 model HO motor installed. Drove 100+ miles the day I pulled her out of the shop. Those were the good ol days!!!
I have decided that I will not be coming to the Roundup this year, mostly due to my financial situation spread between college starting back up in August, and the fiasco that has become my motor swap. I'll have to settle for pics and videos for this year, and I'll definately be down next year with my car. In true maverick fashion, I will most likely be performing my engine swap the same weekend of the Roundup, so I'll be with you in spirit.
