You may get better mileage on a 302 with a small 4v carb. The stock unit is around 350 cfm, so if you use a 390 cfm Holley 4v, then you are only using 180 cfm on the front venturis. The carb is a vacuum secondary, so the rear venturis will only operate when needed. You could even adjust them further to come in a little late. Dave
ratio has a good point, when i went to 4v initially had a 450 cfm with vac sec. actually did see an increase in traffic mileage. went down when the road was open though, darn size 12s
Isn't that all of our problems... We gripe about fuel cost and getting mileage, yet we still cannot control our need for speed. It's our cross to bear.
well folks after all the wonderful imput here i have decided to stay with the i-6 if i can't find one cheap enough and in good shape,i'll have to stick to my original and rebuild it...
When I got over 20 mpg,it had headers & dual exhaust,a recurved point dist. and everything else was stock, even the old 2bbl carb.
First time here. I have a 63 Falcon and was thinking the same idea. I posted the question on the Falcon sight and the feedback was that the 3.8L is a tight fit because it is wider than the 289/302. My wife's 96 T-Bird gets 29 MPG city/hwy and 35 MPG on long highway trips (60-65 mph) with it's 3.8L and AOD trans. It seemed it would be a great combo in the Falcon.
have you considered putting in a Q-jet 2 barrel someone on here was putting one in their I-6, i'm not sure who but i think it was Hawkco
