My son and I are looking at buying a 75 Comet for his first car. The car we're looking at is in good shape, except for the frame that runs from the frame rails to the rockers below the front fenders. This area is pretty much gone on both side. Is this common on these cars? Can it be fixed? Thanks in advance for the help. Ken & Ken
If you are in Arizona I would ONLY buy that car for a parts car. Lots of rust free cars out there in Arizona no need to fix a rusty one. Is that the ONLY rust on the entire car?
The lower fender on the pass side has some bubbling, as well as a hole about the size of a quarter right in the middle of the top of the fender. The rest of the car looks to be in good shape, but it does have a vinyl roof, so you never know. I did push on it in various spots and it seemed solid. The car has a really nice bucket seat interior. The 250 6 cyl is dead, but all of the A/C stuff is there (kinda important here) The guy only wants $500 for it, and we were thinking it would be a good father/son project. Everything else we've seen is 4-5 times that. Thanks again for the help. Ken
are you guys good at welding? if not i would pass, because the money you save will be spent paying a good welder.
Yeah....that is a parts car in my opinion. Now if I saw it in person or a picture of it...my opinion might change. sierra brings up some valid points as well.
i'd watch around for a rust free car. i just got a 72 sprint last november in gilbert for $800 with no body rust. also when you go look at these cars i take a gallon of water with me and pour it into the cowl vent to make sure nothing goes in to the interior. good luck. welcome to the board.
Thank you for the warm welcome, and the advise. I'll keep looking for a while and see what turns up. Thanks again.
Howdy and I would try to buy the car for less, just for the parts. It seems unlogical that the torque boxes are rusted out and the rest of the car is ok. But, anything is possible. If you can bend metal and weld, repairing them would not be too difficult.
howdy from california...i was born in phoenix...as far as that mav. goes,i would pass all together...that is unless you're into complete tare-down restoration...
Hello there, and Welcome! I have no opinion, but i would listen to the other people on the forum... Probably some of the smartest people ever!
ken, someone told me there's a couple of mavericks in the local auto trader. i haven't seen it but thought i'd pass it on.
